GREAT DESTROYER VS. SHIVA

Post by stevecaratzas »

Okay, okay - First, I owe everyone an apology.

On another part of this ILF forum I referred to the "idiocy" of the Dwarfcraft demo vids. Uhm, you know how the line between genius and insanity can sometimes be really thin? Clearly, I encountered genius, and just didn't realize.

I made it through several Dwarfcraft demo vids and am now hopelessly hooked on them - as well as the devices themselves.

So, here's a question for those that will still give me the time of day: Great Destroyer or Shiva? Which is recommended for a first-time Dwarfcraft purchase?

(Another way of looking at it: which pedal would win in a steel cage match?)

Thanks in advance.
ILF Gear: The Android (Copilot FX); Ruiner, Shoe Gazer, Silver Crank (Devi Ever); Frazz Dazzler (Dr. Scientist); Shiva (Dwarfcraft Devices); Dirt Transmitter, Disaster Transport (EarthQuaker Devices); Mini Wolf CPU (Mellowtone); Clari(not), Fuzz Wall, Glitch Computer, Pitch Pirate (mid-fi electronics); Team Awesome Fuzz (smallsound/bigsound).

yeah they're pretty awesome, in all their idiocy, them Dwarfy vidz
on that note, I still don't know what the plane ticket does <.<

I've not owned either of the pedals, I want both but don't have the funds or means to get either at the moment
so this isn't from first hand experience but more from what people say all over these here interwebz
the GD is more over the top and crazy, more weird oscillations there than in the Shiva who is more usable while still keeping the signature Dwarfy low-end and obscene noise making abilities.

and dude if theres any place where you won't get shunned for talking crap about a builder it's gonna be here, seriously.
and you didn't even say anything bad

TGD. It has more noise, and a pretty reliable "normal"sound too.

Sorry, I guess I'm a pussy.

I opted for the Shiva. I've seen some very cool demos of it ( a couple by Aen himself), and it seems to have exactly what I'm love about fuzz: hellacious screech, damnable howls, keening destructo fuzziosoty, octave up, suboctave, weird shit with the right-hand switch, etc.

The Great Destroyer, a masterpiece in its own right, would clearly get me evicted in no time flat. And what with a wife and kids, etc. You get the idea.

But, when I really want to throw caution to the wind and let the world know "Hey, bitches, this is me: bold, brash and you better believe it" (a la Riley from SNL), TGD will get the call

Thanks all!

If the Shiva is the more "normal" of the two, I can't imagine how unruly TGD must be. Though I'm itching to find out.

The Shiva has given me every oddball sound from a melting geiger counter covered in velcro set on fire and pelted with sharpened gravel to a legion of insane midgets trampling a speaker to death whilst wearing stainless steel pumps.

Dare I get me a TGD after this?
