Dr. Q +fuzz=????
I want to add a cheap envelope filter that plays well with fuzz. Pedals are as follows: Fuzzhugger Phantom Octave,BBE Green screamer,Velcroar,Green Ringer clone, Soda Meiser,Mellowtone mini wolf cpu, memory boy. I was considering the Dr. Q due to it's diminutive price tag and size, but have no experience with it. Anybody?

Try the mini Q-tron or nano Bassballs before you decide. I found the Dr Q to be kinda flat. Depends what you're after though I guess -- I wanted a kinda mutron WOMP! and the Dr Q is a bit wimpy.

Re: Dr. Q +fuzz=????
owned 'em both once before and found the Bassballs to be too sensitive and the mini q tron either too bright or too dark with fuzz(used with Big Muff,Fuzz Factory,Foxx Tone Machine). I'm looking for a zippy sound, the sonic equivalent of a ball o' fuzz travelling thru an electric coffee straw
so this may not be as cheap an endeavor as I'd hoped for. DOD,maybe?

I've never tried my Ibanez AW7 before my fuzzes. though putting an OK before it makes cool blipy fuzz diarrhea
After doesn't really do much. might have to experiment and get back to ya because they're pretty cheap and it has the LPF/BPF mode as well as a distortion you can set before or after the wah portion. might help beef up the sound goin into a fuzz.

DOD fx25 or 25B, maybe? This 25b has a BIN of $72 on eBay... dunno if that's cheap enough, though...

Re: Dr. Q +fuzz=????
I played a vintage 70's Dr. Q and a Nano one, they're both fine and should do the trick. I personally loved the Dr. Q going into an overdrive tube amp, makes for sweet 70's classic rock riffs (and I usually hate playing that stuff, haha). I'd recommend it for noise but I haven't really given it a shot practically with fuzz. But overall I loved the Dr. Q.
The Mini Q-tron sucked in my opinion the only usable mode was the low pass mode and the other modes didn't do anything. I personally would go for the Big Box Q-tron in which all the modes work and sound proper.

Or you could wait and save up for a used Moog Low Pass filter. Those turn up used for under $200 and the enveloping is reeeeeeeally good. Plus you get a great filter!
I can definitely vouche for the Moog working well with any other device you pair it with. I usually run it first in the chain.

Re: Dr. Q +fuzz=????
i think the bigger newer q trons have an fx loop which might work better for this purpose. because envelope filters are based onyour dynamics and fuzz pedals usually kill your dynamics, you get a better result with one of the newer q trons (if i am not mistaken) using the fx loop. that way it will take your clean dynamics but still run the fuzz into the filter

Thanks everyone! I'm thinking that I'll just save up for the qtron + like Eric suggested. With the effects loop,it'll give me the hairball thru a sonic tunnel type sound I'm chasing after. I believe the mini wolf will go after, for filtered, glitchy goodness. And perhaps I'll run the others thru the fx loop. Phantom Octave and mini wolf cpu on lap steel videos will be posted this weekend on the 'tube.

Only bad thing is,I'm having to use my mom's(yes,my mom also strums a bit)crappy First Act amp to do the demo on. I wish I still had my Silvertone xl10

Filter should really go before fuzz though...even though fuzz should usually go first...everything wants to be first it seems.blooghost wrote:Thanks everyone! Go for broke homie. Crank that sucka! (Before I ever had gear I used to "play" trumpets and accordians into an old CB mic plugged into a tape deck plugged into my teenaged combo stereo. Ran it all in the red and let feedback wail!)

Some of the warmest tones I've ever played were thru my Tascam 4 track(TAPE!)with a Holy Grail at the end of my effects chain. Real woolly, vintage, and ragged. When the levels were maxed,it turned my OD into sick fuzz.
