Boxidizer vs. Rusty Box?
I'm thinking about getting one for guitar, but I'm not really sure which would be better. I know the Boxidizer is just the Rusty Box with an adjusted eq for guitar and you can change the level of the boost switch, but there aren't many demos of either with guitar. There's some short ones on the boxidizer but they don't really go into much detail or turn the knobs much.
The boxidizer seems to be a little cheaper since I wouldn't have to buy an adapter for it, so that's a plus. Also how well would it stack with a civil war big muff? I've only ever seen really high gain demos of both the rusty and the boxidizer.

Rusty Box takes pedals well, never had a problem with that. From the dirt from the muff family I used Supercollider and Beast with Rusty Box.

Re: Boxidizer vs. Rusty Box?
If you're playing guitar through a guitar amp I would definitely say the Boxidizer is the better option, because it has level adjustment for the boost function and is easy to power. The voicing wouldn't make a huge diff if you used a Rusty box.
I never tried it with a muff but it stacked well with basically anything really, i think it always sounded better at the end of the chain to sculpt the sound of other dirt pedals.. IMO the lower gain sounds are the coolest thing just adding a bit of punch and clang to anything.

I figured they'd be similar. My OCD kind of sounds like trash at the end of the chain when the big muff is popped on. I'm definitely looking for some punch and clarity. I definitely like that the boxidizer is 9v powered. I don't know why they haven't done that for the rusty box yet.backwardsvoyager wrote:If you're playing guitar through a guitar amp I would definitely say the Boxidizer is the better option, because it has level adjustment for the boost function and is easy to power. Curious, anyone use a boxidizer with bass?

Danny W does with good results. I got to play around with bass and Boxidizer through a Traynor YBA-3 and it slayed.
The Tronographic guys prefer the Boxidizer for Bass VI apparently. I didn't notice any lack of lows.

The Rusty Box fucking sucks IMO. I just don't get why anyone likes it. It's fucking noisy. Lacks lows and destroys the rest of my pedals. Plus it runs on a fucking 32v plug or some crazy shit. I mean give me a break.
I'm in the non norm of people's experiences with I guess, but for my money fuck that shit. Generic as fuck. haha.

It should be noted though that I play an 18v active bass and use a tube amp.

Re: Boxidizer vs. Rusty Box?
I use a Rusty Box and I have 0 of these problems. It's an always on pedal for me and gives me a super clean sound that is perfect for the rest of my pedals. It runs on 24v 2.5mm plug (which is dumb but they provide you with an adapter when you order so it doesn't bother me at all.)jwar wrote:The Rusty Box fucking sucks IMO. I saw the Austerity Program last week and the bass player had 2 pedals: tuner and a Rusty Box prototype. He had one of the best bass tones I've heard in a long time.

Re: Boxidizer vs. Rusty Box?
I've had both at the same time. The Boxidizer's EQ is a little brighter, it's a little more 'gainy'. I do like that the Boxidizer didn't have the weird power requirements, and the gain control for the boost footswitch was a nice addition as well. The Rusty Box has a slightly darker and a little more scooped EQ. I will say that with the Rusty Box, when using it on bass, I needed an EQ pedal after it to slightly bump the bass up a little bit. I only noticed it with certain amps and at certain settings, but I did notice that it lacked a little bass with certain settings. I really did love both of them when I had them though, they were excellently built and very solid. I miss them both
