Reverbverbverbverb of DOOOOOOOOOOOOM

Post by mc_muench »

So I like my Ibanez Echo Shifter but I still just cant quite seem to get a hold of how use and control it ir any delay well for bass. I use it for...I should correct that, I TRY to use it for adding depth and spaceyness, spaceship crazy sounds. Well alot of times it just turns into my sound mush because my tone is already thick as a brick from the amount of fuzz I run. So Ive been thinking about what I could replace it with that would fit my needs better and I can actually figure out. I use it in my 2 piece that I sing in so I want to keep things as simple as possible, and delay just aint that simple for me.

I think I want some crazy reverb, since reverb is my fav effect.

Ive boiled it down to a few different options...but Im open to others aswell

Fuzzrocious Afterlife- But from the demos Ive heard and watched it doesnt impress me a whole lot, hoping I can get someones real first hand opinion of it.

EHX Catherdal- seems like a jack of all trades when it comes to verb, even have a delay mode so I wouldnt lose a delay pedal really

Death By Audio Reverberation Machine- they only make batshvt crazy stuff, so its very promising.

Mr Black Supermoon- if I can find one.

Any thoughts?

This is going to sound a little counterintuitive, but you probably want to look at a slightly brighter reverb pedal. Dark ones will turn your shit to mush super fast.

It would seem like the Industrial Electric reverb would be great for this, plus he's one of us.

That actually makes sense. Brighter the better.

The earthquaker Afterneath was also suggested, Im stopping at a fancy pants music store after worktoday to check one of them out, theyll probably have some of the others I mentioned there too.

I have an Afterneath coming tomorrow so I can report back on how it handles lots of fuzz.

I had the DBA verb for a short while. It was pretty cool. I preferred it on the brighter setting with lots of fuzz and the darker setting playing cleaner. The darker setting turned to mush really easily but the bright setting helped the verb cut through the sludge a little better. It does add gain to your signal at pretty much any altitude setting though. Don't know if thats a plus or a minus for you.

I think the Afterneath pre delay would help with a little clarity in all the madness.

Supermoon rules. I got the chrome one which goes 100% wet (AWESOME).

With the sway turned down you have an great sounding extreme reverb. With the sway turned up your guitar begins channeling demonic beings from outside of time.

I'm testing my guitar board on bass today. Let you know about the spring chicken and procession. Not that you asked about either of those, but I freaking love them both with fuzz on guitar. My initial guess is the procession won't be what you want because it doesn't seem to love a real huge signal.

Well I ended up with the Cathedral!!! The store sold the afterneath yesterday so they gave me a deal on the Cathedral I couldnt refuse. Handles bass great with the damping/tone knob turned up. It gets way weird and wet, and with so many different verbs...plus an echo mode, so I still have delay if I want it. Im sure the afterneath is awesome but Im sure this cathedral can do way more.

Thanks for the suggestions people!

The cathedral is a nice box but like D.o.S said, the rm-1n is one hell of a machine. If reverb is your favorite effect than this would be the one. Everyone should own one. Its also a beautiful pedal in itself heres mine...

I feel like I've got my traditional reverb handled by my RRR. But the Afterneath and the Procession interest me. What's the main differences between those two besides the Procession's hold switch?

The procession is a modulated reverb with 3 different mod settings. Trem, flange, and filter.

Afterneath is really just a ton of short delays that make a "scattered" sounding reverb. At longer settings its more like a multitap delay.

Really, the only similarity is that they can both do sort of a normal reverb at some settings. They're very different as far as I can tell. Very little overlap.

My Afterneath is coming today! I'm 99% sure I'm still going to end up with a Ghost Echo too.

Sometimes I can't tell from gear demos because I'm not the one playing it -- in the case of the procession's demo video, I can't tell what the hell is going on, and in the Earthquaker demo, there's no visible guitar. Not that I need the full "Heres my setup let's talk about my Laney amp settings" 15-minute demo videos for these either.

I would go with the Afterneath if you already have a RRR. Since the RRR has a rotary setting, the modulation on the Procession might not be all that new and fun for you.

Like I said, I haven't tried the Afterneath yet (HURRY UP MAILMAN) but I think it's different enough from a standard verb to be worth a try. Its going to be my only reverb at the moment but I have no clue exactly how I'm going to end up using it.

Yeah, and the spot the Afterneath would be taking is my old big box Ghost Echo. (I'm a huge fan of my amp's spring reverb so I find myself using the Ghost Echo less and less.)
