Chanks that was great! I'd never heard the Hassan recording. What an enigmatic dude.

Re: Bebop/Hard Bop Suggestions
Yeah, that's Hasaan's only released date. He supposedly made a couple other sessions that never saw the light of day. Apparently he was a genius, but very difficult to work with. He's considered to be pretty influential among the Philly jazz musicians that came up under him.
I was never much of a Weather Report fan either. IMO, the sum did not equal the parts. I like most of those guys much better separately and not so much together.
This seems to be turning into a general jazz thread. A lot of stuff that's getting posted here isn't really Bop/Hard Bop. I'm guilty of posting stuff not in that vein myself. Like this, which I wanted to post, but haven't until now, is soul jazz:

As could be considered much of the organ jazz I was thinking about posting. That's why I asked exactly what Helter wanted to hear.

Re: Bebop/Hard Bop Suggestions
I don't have any helpful suggestions about bebop or Hard bop.
But when it comes to "visual jazz", one of my favorite artists is Harry Smith. His connection to jazz
runs deep.
Harry Smith "painted" a Manteca by Dizzy Gillespie in a "transcription", where each bibble-dee-bop
of paint representing a note or beat.

He lived in SF in the '40s and '50s and hung out with Charlie Parker, Dizzy Gillespie & Thelonious Monk.

Harry Smith in front of his abstract murals at Bop City jazz nightclub, San Francisco, ca. 1949.
He synched up several of his animations to jazz compositions. But then didn't have enough money
to transfer the sound, so records are sometimes hazy (he was also a drug addict, polymath and
collector of paper airplanes, Ukrainian Easter Eggs, and compiler of the Anthology of American
Folk Music—on the cover of which he put a picture of Robert Fludd's "Monochord", a hermetic symbol,
he wanted it released as four vinyl LPs, the color of each cover corresponding to one of the four
elements: earth, fire, water, air. He didn't list the race of the musicians as part of the Anthology
of American Folk Music, and his descriptions of the songs are more surrealistic than "ethnographic").
Synced to "Mysterioso" by Thelonious Monk:
