The Great Destroyer- Start to finish (part one)

Post by aen »

When you build a great Destroyer, first open your big box of parts and marvel it the pile it makes.

Bag of POt s

Then mark through the template so you can drill that bitch

Image
Image

Start with some pilot holes, so your bits dont go ZZZZZZZZZZZ all over the boxx.
Image

Holes for pots and LED bezels can be done straight away!
Image

Image
PRETTY

Then do the jacks/swtch
Image
Image
Image
These hole smake a lot of noise, so you have to do them whemn your kids are up, or they will wake up and scream and your wife will yell at you for being stupid.
Image
OH HOW PRETTY!

Then you gotta rough that shit up with sandpaper, for the next step
Image

Image
PAINTIN' Be sure to do it outside, even though it's cold or your wife will yell at you for the stink. Set the stencil on te box!

Image
Paint 'em!

Then go inside and label the backplates.
Image
Image

Then, you probably have about half an hour to kill. after that, clear coat EVERYTHING!
Image

Image
PRETTY

Next is stickin in the things that stick out.
Image
Image

Oh, pretty.

then its on to the circuit boards!

Does spraypainting outside work in the winter?

It's been below 10 degrees F and windy/snowing every day for the past week here by the lake...

I gto so excited with my last batch that I forgot to take the step by step pix.

Populate teh board!

Then I wrap that shit up so no metal can touch my shit adn ground it out, but It cans till be moved around if I need it to.
Image

Probably dont take one of these to the airport.
Image

Attatch the pots
Image

Image

Then it's just a lot of finishing the power/ground connections and switch routing.
Image

Image
Image

Then you gotta test it!

Image

Hopefully it works!

I put the knobs on last so i know which are "cleared for takeoff" and which are not verified.

Hey, I wonder what it owuld sound like if I took this here expression pedal and...

Audio HAS been recorded, but I'm off to bed. 5 virtual dollars towhomever beats me to an uploaded sample of TGD with an expression pedal in the in-hole.

Nice - I have to get (at least) one of your pedals at some point!

How are the plans for the 5 knob version going?

Its prototyped, but I want to make it a bit brighter, have to experiment a little. I ofund that when you put TGD up against a devi fuzz or Big Muff, it has less treble blast. And sometimes you need a treble blast.
