What's your budget? I am sure we could recommend a few routes to go, from big box demoing the whole wall, to getting a neck custom made?

I have an sg with a slightly beefier neck than standard. Not sure what era it is, just based off guitar center time playing all of them. It's awesome. I'm always trying other guitars but I can never bring them home because the one I haves' neck is perfect.

You just described the Squier Mascis Jazzmaster, the pickups are more P90 than JM, and if you like the guitar, boom, swap pickups if you insist on something specific in P90s.

Even if you spend a couple hundred on the PUs, you're still at < 600.

I have returned with some information gleaned from research:

Found out my Strat has Fender's "Standard Thin" neck profile, approx 0.781" (19.83mm) deep, which might explain why it feels so thin to me.

My Carbonita has a "Modern C" neck which is approx 0.8125" deep (20.64mm). That's barely a millimeter deeper than the Strat neck, although it has steeper shoulders which makes a big difference too.

No idea what my First Act's neck measures because, understandably, there's no info I can find online and I don't own any calipers yet. If I had to make a wild, unscientific guess based on what I found about the others I'd say maybe somwhere around 0.850", but I've emailed the company to see if they have any figures handy. Hopefully they can help!

I also found out that the SG/Les Paul 60s Tribute neck has a 0.800" (20.32mm) depth, while the 50s tributes have 0.818" (20.78mm). So theoretically the 50s Tribute would be somewhat comparable to my Cabronita.

Man, now I wish all manufacturers published their neck measurements. It would be great to know what the story is with the Casino and J Mascis neck and other suggestions.

a local music shop used to have a display with fender necks to hold and get an idea of the feel. every shop should do that.

You got one of those somewhat recently, right? I don't know much about Casinos, are the neck sizes pretty consistent from iteration to iteration, or do you find some with slim necks and some with chunkers?

I have an old Ibanez tele copy made in 1971 and it has an awesome baseball bat U shaped neck on it. Is that the sort of neck you want? Feels so nice in my hand. Plenty of meat to grab hold of :picard:

I didn't even know about these Melody Makers. They have a couple on Reverb for even cheaper!

Shit, am I gonna have to buy one?

I have three electrics that I use. A Fender Strat which is my main guitar, a Squier Cabronita, and an ugly First Act Tele (ME-302) copy.

:idk:
they are all skinny arse twangy guitars with skinny arse necks. am in absolute agreement with cheesecats (nepotism) re:

a decent sg with p90s or high gain hums will change your world. but new gibson are absurdly overpriced for the money. buy used gibson (1/2 to 2/3 of new price) or look for a really sweet 70s mij sg copy, and spend the rest on a used squire jag/jazzmaster so you still have a classy surf twanger as a back up.

So he talks a bunch of shit about Rondo huh? MIJ I agree with, South Korea I agree with. Fender MIM I disagree with (the pickups..)

"Every one of them [Rondo] is garbage"

What an asshole. The actions are great, the pickups not so much. So fucking what? How hard is it to put in new pickups?

Only thing you might want to check on with this is how you get along with the shorter neck.
