I use one for this exact reason. Into an Ampeg V2 cab and an Ampeg 810e for both.

I would think any bass amp could handle a guitar, but not vice versa.

A lot of bass amps/speakers sound weird on guitar because the preamp is set for higher input signal/cabs can sound horribly piercing (tweeters), the response is just kind of weirdly flat whereas guitar amps emphasise the right frequencies. All of this can be compensated for with different cabs and preamp-type pedals but it is something worth thinking about.

IIRC the acoustic 160 is supposed to sound quite like the v4 and work fine with bass. Or maybe I'm thinking of another model. Also, old solid state heads could work if you (like me) like your amp clean with lotsa headroom. You might find a guitar head with enough watts and ass to be a good option for bass. The importance is mostly in which cab you pair it with.

Thinking about mayyyybe trading in my deville to put it towards a bassman they local shop has. If I remember right, they're around $1100-$1600, I think?
The scoop: he has both a silver face and black face bassman. (I don't know the models very well, FYI)
If I traded my deville, he could give me around $350 trade in. So I'd still have to pay close to a grand :/

Do those prices sound legit for vintage bassman heads? I mean, I'd still have to get a decent cab. Or would I be better off getting a cheaper head so I could actually afford a cab to play it through ?

I use guitar amps along with bass cabs for my bass rig. My main amp is a Bugera 1960, which is a clone of a 1959 Marshall Super Lead. It sounds great for both bass and guitar. It's the older one without a master volume, but they made a newer one with master volume and some auto-biasing magic.

You're talking about just the heads right? I recommend head+cab over combo anyday. Over 1000, especially close to 1500 is too much $ either way.
Get a Bassman for around $800, total. Or a Bandmaster for a little less.
In the past month on eBay I've seen several BF originals sell for around $700 or less.
Don't let your local shop tempt you with premium prices on what's there in front of your face.
I bought my own TNB 50mk2 unheard...I just did my research...and 2.5 years later it's still my #1. It pays to shop around.

If you're looking to spend $1000-1100 I would get the Selmer I linked...it's loosely based on the Bassman but its channels have more usable voicings IMO.
Both Bassman channels sound great with guitar but the Bass channel is very underwhelming on Bass...
With the Selmer TNB 50mk2 both channels are outstanding with guitar, and the Bass channel is actually useful and sounds great with bass.

Just googled that Bugera and... WTF? Why is it so damn cheap?
Not handwired and cheap tubes I guess, but is it reliable?

I wish >100 watt all trve tube amps were that cheap.

For a Silver Face, $1100-$1600 is about double what they usually go for.
If you are patient, you can probably score one for around $500.

I suppose any tube amp with enough headroom and low end will work. Of the amps I owned, I'd say an OR120, Fender Bassman, Traynor YBA-1, and a Marshall Superbass would do a good job on both guitar as well as bass.

Keep an eye out for a Sovtek. If you plan on playing bass live go for a 100 watt.

I have a mig50h that was recently re-tubed with jj6L6 power tubes and it is a low end monster. Dirt pedals sound massive through it.
