On paper I like the idea of tuning in fifths a lot.

In practice it's fucking awful because the notes aren't where they should be and that freaks me out.

Oooff seriously... glad I'm not the only one.

Odd string running down center of the neck over my beautiful inlaid dots? No thank you.

Most of my basses don't even have fret markers but even numbers FTW

You guys are just dummies. Admit it. :)

Really though I'm not big on 5's either. But I love that low B. I'd love a good 6 that didn't have a enormous string spacing for my baby hands.

Another weird thing: I have small hands, too, but I prefer wider string spacing, and, again, more than four strings fuck me up so hard.

4>5>6

Interestingly enough, I've found that I got used to playing on closer 17mm spacing of most 5 or 6's fairly easily.

Kinda wish more 4's had that instead of 19mm

I mean maybe if you play music that goes faster than 3bpm and uses more than two notes in a song.

hahahaha

See I love my Jackson and it's some weird ass string spacing. Super fucking tight. But damn it's a piece of shit. hahaha. Won't stay in tune worth a crap, neck is a bitch to adjust and the neck is not a breeze to play on either. But I fucking LOVE the string spacing. It's like a guitar but not a stupid fucking god damn son of bitch guitar.

I still only have 4's after a brief few months with a 5. Never got used to it. I have a four tuned down to A (using a five string set), that's a hell of a lot of fun to play though.

^ I bet that's heavy as fuck. I like the sound of bass that low buta lot of the time it lacks too much clarity. Womp.

Tried it for a bit (three strings anyway), and its definitely weird to get used to. Not necessarily because the notes arent where they usually are, but reaching certian intervals is a bit more difficult, and I'm definitely not used to chord shapes like this. I'll have to play with it more.

Although I did just come up with a lil riff that I wouldnt have come up with in standard tuning, and transfering the riff into standard tuning led me to an technique I haven't used before. So thats cool.

I like 5ers best :idk: although I own a ton of 4s… really I just wish more pickup types were made for basses with more than than 4 strings… The thing about 6ers for me is I think they are cool but I am finding that I always want to go more them one string higher.. and one string lower.. and then bass VIs are too guitar like to be a actual instrument of usefulness.. and that is why I building an 8 string :idk:
