Amp for bass AND guitar?

Post by gunslinger_burrito »

I started playing some bass recently. I've always wanted a bass amp or cab to support my guitar tone, as I've never really played in a band setting (yet). Now I'm wondering if it would be a viable option to trade my Hot Rod Deville in to help fund an amp that can pull double duty (I won't be able to afford a whole new amp rig anytime in the near future). I know that some people play guitar through old Ampeg bass amps, so I'm wondering what y'all thoughts on this are? I'd probably be looking at an amp and cab, but if there are solid, LOUD combos that can pull this off, I'd be happy to hear about them too.

thx dwds

The obvious respons here seems to get one of them bassman amps or like a traynor bass master or something. There are lots of older amp models with both a bass input and a guitar input. Old music man amps are kick ass aswell, loud clean (atleast on guitar, a bass might get some grit, but totally not sure) and take pedals awesomely. The HD series has both bass and guitar inputs and there are combo models too. Not super duper expensive either, so a hot rod for one of these doesn't seem to far fetched.

I was super tempted to buy this with the goal of running a stereo pair...or 1 on bass+1 on guitar at the same time...but instead got an incredible deal on a UA 1176LN

I loop so I use bass and guitar together extensively. Fender PA135 is excellent (although a good preamp really brings it to life for guitar) and I've had excellent success with the Traynor YBA3. The YBA1A is excellent for guitar but bass at full volume is too compressed for me. Could be the 6550's/ how that amp rolls.

Higher wattage, bigger headroom :idk:

I would think any bass amp could handle a guitar, but not vice versa.

Fuck Peavey amps. Seriously. I don't get the fascination. I had one when I was a teenager and it was a piece of crap.
