And that's with earplugs in.

Fahk dood. That kind of shit pisses me off. Drummers dont need to be wrecking their shit, but a drummer that hit's with authority (and hopefully technique) should be cherished. The rest of the band should adjust to the volume of the one acoustic instrument in the room. I know I'm a couple days late here but wtf.

Oh you are right, and yea played with authority and technique and knew how to tune and get the most out of my kit. It's not my fault they had garbage ass gear. I mean some terrible ass shit and refused to upgrade and when I started getting more guitar gear refused to use a better head. cause the main culprit of that was my death/thrash band where the guitarist used some Crate piece of shit, one of the early 2000's pieces of shit with a shiney logo like fake chrome and matching cab. I tried to get him to use an Ampeg SS when I finally got one and he said the tone sounded like shit... right then I realized he was deaf.

the others was some random band/dudes I tried jamming with that I eventually just said fuck it and went on. I can't hear them, they can't hear themselves... it's not worth putting more effort into when I know they aren't going to get some more serious gear than whatever junk they bought that can't cut it regardless if it's 100w. or worst have a decent head (JCM 800) with some garbage beringer cabs that was ragged out to begin with.

Hah. Someone asked me the other day why I don't play in a band anymore:

It sucks when people are telling the drummer to play quieter. It also sucks when you can't hear the drummer over 3000 watts of generic-ass sludge. I swear, though, if the drummer can't hear them and they've got 100 watt amps, even with shitty cabs, even if if the drummer is playing loud, it's not their equipment. It's that their little brains can't figure out how to PROJECT.

How hard is it to understand? If the drummer plays loud, you play loud. If the drummer plays quiet, you play at the volume of the drummer.

EDIT: Maybe I'd make an exception for those Crate heads, though. Those things were weak!

Fucking woof. Seriously man.

Definitely struggling. Asked my bandmates if we could practice this week. One is working out of town. The other never responded.
Probably should find some new people. Ugh.

I'm slowly being reminded why I love recording all by myself. the band that started out strong with great material has been floundering now.

I went out of town for 2 weeks. I came back and we have had one practice since then. Only set up one other single practice since then and it happened to be the only weekend I planned on going out of town for a comic con. It's not like it's often I'm gone.

I also hate having to text to just ask. My scheduel doesn't change and as I've said... I'm good all week after 3:30PM till whenever and on the weekends I'm good all day sat and I'd like to take sunday to actually relax at my house not having to spend an hour driving for one day out of the entire week, but if need be I'll do a sunday practice if it's in the morning. It's not too much to scheduel something, goddamn. Ain't like I'm being unreasonable.

been recording a ton more like i used to about 2 years ago where i'm almost getting an album completed a week. that's just writing and recording. usually vocals and mixing eat up far more time.

Whatever dude, you're going to Church.

But for real I feel really similarly. One of my band mates doesn't ever work into the evening. The other bandmate seems to prioritize his other bands which is perhaps the larger struggle. He may not be prioritizing but they seem to have set scheduled practices which annoys me because then he'll tell me that out of all his projects that ours is the most fun/important/desired as far as playing shows goes. But then I suggest something and nobody really seems to think it workable. They have my schedule at all times but still don't think to plan with it in mind. For instance last week they wanted to practice at 5:30 and I worked until 7 p.m. Of course, wanting to jam I was like fuck it, I'll find somebody to cover part of my shift or I'll go in early. But when I ask shit seems to always be happening.

I guess I need to buy some quality microphones and start recording solo. I can't play drums but I'll figure it out. Sigh.

I either need to learn to play drums, find a drummer, or buy and learn a drum machine.

None of these sound very feasible ATM.

I do session work for people as far as drumming goes. I do it because I enjoy the material, not for money cause hell there is no real money in what I like playing. haha.

And yea odontophobia I am going to church. church of the lord savior, me.

Neonblack, I learned to play drums in your situation. It was pretty great. I never got that good but I could do slow stuff tolerably well, and I could record by myself and bash away with friends. At times it was incredible because I could sound like a less proficient version of the drummer I always wanted to hear playing my tunes.

Also drummers on average are nicer, more generous and more helpful than guitar players (how come it never seems like that when you're in a band, tho?), and I met folks who were very willing to help me improve.

Ultimately, when I played a show, you could probably tell that the drummer wasn't that great, but it was fun, and it was great for recording. Whenever I tried to deal with drum loops, I'd get bored and frustrated.
