Songs with ring mod..?

Post by UglyCasanova »

I see a lot of people having ring mods on their boards, but what do you use it for? The few I have heard sound very unmusical by themselves. I don't mind a bit of dissonance, but ring mods are a bit too much, even for me. I think my scepticism is based on not having heard ring mods used in band contexts too often (some Mars Volta and Black Sabbath excluded).

Please share with me some of your or other artist's uses of ring mods. I'd love to be converted. ;)

I knew about the Mars Volta one (see first post), which is a nice example. I tried searching for any older threads on the topic too, but I guess my search skills are lacking.

I'm going to check these out in the morning. Keep 'em coming, boys! (twss)

Best ring mod I played was the Frequency Analyzer, super simple and easy to use.

Also the intro to this, but I'm pretty sure 99% of ILF would hate this song. :P

I have been using them since 2001 on every song I've ever made until recently. I used to play shows with just a big muff and an ehx fa and i had enough sounds to piss everyone off. Blend is your friend. Overtones, percussion, weird tremolo, grit, dissonance. Its real versatile and all the flavors nowadays are fun.
