Well, he plays a hd130 so it's a hybrid amp. Also, our drummer says the he can't hear our guitarist, and our guitarist doesn't feel that he need to turn up to try and match me. So it comes down to sacrificing awesome tone of the Svt for our guitar player who won't turn up his amp past 5. Honestly, he's been complaining about our sound since I made the switch and has been negative about the whole thing. Everyone else has said that my tone is insane and sounds rad as fuck, but he only sees the negative about it, in that he has to change his set up to fit better. Basically, guitar player is offended by volume and tone, and doesn't want to have to change to allow for me to have the sound that I've been dreaming of. Also, I can clearly hear our drummer over my amp and I sit right next to my rig. So, I don't know what they're complaining about.

That the drummer can't hear your guitarist and your guitarist can't/won't turn up means you've probably got to turn down. At least, that's my not-in-the-room take as someone who's been playing bass with guitarists and drummers for a little while (certainly not as long as some other forumites, but maybe longer than some others).

Something else worth considering is speaker orientation - is your amp facing the other guitarist? Seems kinda basic but i figure it's worth checking. Whenever i had volume issues in my last band it was usually fixed by me moving my speakers around so they weren't pointing at the other people in the band. at shows usually amps won't be pointing at your bandmates but if you're practicing in a square-ish room or whatever the default orientation usually changes a lot.

I interpret this as meaning your guitarist isn't loud enough for ur drummer so he needs to turn up.
You should talk to him 1 on 1 to settle the differences, but ur the bassist so anything u say will just sound like your whining and just want to somehow stand out even further in front of the "mix". Wait till you record and think you need the bass to be turned up.

I used to play an HD130 through a 2x12 and people would say it was the loudest thing they every heard (although with only 2 speakers, it kind of was aimed straight at their ear holes). I don't recall ever turning it past 7. At any rate how great your tone is is only one aspect of your band. Great tone don't mean shit if people aren't listening to each other. You need to seek the advice of someone who actually has some sense and listens to your band. You need to follow the advice of that person. My gut is the he's thinking that you're all about your amp and not about the other people in the band.

Y'all need to talk about the big picture. It's not the end of the world if your bass tone suffers for the greater good. That said, if you and the drummer are into one thing, and the guitar player isn't you need to find a new guitar player. But maybe he just doesn't want to be in a small room with a cranked SVT several times a week and you have to find a way to balance your interests. I would suggest that in return for him using his additional speaker cab, you drop your hard-line insistence on always playing cranked, but keep it loud.

Either you're on the same page, in which case volume levels and instrument tones are gonna have to take a back seat to general areas of agreement, or your not, in which case the drummer is gonna probably decide who to continue playing with.

The people who are listening to your music aren't gonna give a fuck about your bass tone. I can tell you that right now. They're probably not even gonna notice the difference between V-4 volume and SVT volume. That's the irony of all music forums.

Just cuz I'm old, I'll add that ears are a finite resource, and with an HD 130 he's gotta stand a lot closer to a whole lot of treble than you do.

Most of them will notice whether it falls into certain categories like "good", "distorted" "clean" and "bad".

I was in a band, BTW where the band members complained about my volume to the point where I was playing a Peavey Delta Blues 30 on about 4 and they were still pissing and moaning. But that's because I was playing with my WIFE fer fuck sake and she'd get them all riled up about some nonsense.

Most of the bands I've been in where I'm the drummer I'm the one that was told to turn down more. Because I'm used to hitting with power. Literally was told could I hit a little softer or not so hard on the cymbals. I'm the one always bitching for everyone to turn the fuck up so I can hear them over my own goddamn playing. And that's with earplugs in.

My most enjoyable project so far is just a two piece, me and a drummer, so the bigger and louder the better. Whenever I'm playing with other guitar players it seems like volume is such a problem. It's so weird to me that everyone seems to love rocking out so quiet. Plus it always makes the drummers bored.

I'm not saying I want to go crazy, wall shattering loud all the time, but I do want to doom out a little.

I'm not that loud, but I always cut through. Doesn't matter how loud you are, you can hear me and I can hear me.

Part of that is, if you ask me to turn up, I'm definitely turning it up.
