Reverb for going into cranked amp
My current setup is running my amp (Fryette Deliverance 120) with a good amount of breakup so when my guitar's volume is maxed, I get some pretty gainy tones and when I roll back the volume/split the coil, I get my cleans.
I'm looking for a reverb that would work well in that situation - running into a pushed preamp. I don't really use the reverb when my volume is up and in higher gain territory, only when I'm play clean or mid breakup?
I have a Source Audio Dimension, which is a great reverb, but I find it doesn't do too well in the current situation. Even with the Treble control off, the reverb is a little too bright.
I'm looking for something that can be dark. It doesn't need to be huge, infinite decay, as a little reverb goes a long way when playing loud.
Thoughts?

I have been running my RV-5 pre dirt forever and it sounds awesome.
Very easy to dial in a ton of good sounds

Boss RV2 or RV3 would also work really well for this. I prefer the RV2 pre dirt though

Re: Reverb for going into cranked amp
yeah i can't say whether the 5 or 2 would be better as i haven't tried those yet but the reason I love the RV-3 pre-gain is because of the 90's-tier overly simple emulation of acoustic reverb that ends up being this heavily filtered smear that just drags out everything you play.
most other reverbs especially newer ones always have some sort of pre-delay or 'bloom' or try to sound too much like actual springs or whatever and running into dirt it just sounds like a complicated incoherent mess
with the RV-3 and similar you just get smear. lovely lovely smear.

Dr. Scientist Reverberator or the DBA Reverberation Machine are my pre-dirt reverb pedals of choice...
Also gonna back all the previous posters, the Boss RVs all work well like this too...
In before someone mentions the RM-1N...

another vote for the ghost echo. it's such a nice little pedal, not too pricy but sounds great. as close to an 'always on' as a reverb gets for me.

I wanted to recommend the Holy Grail for this, but it's fairly bright and trashy, so RV3 or RRR gets my vote.

Re: Reverb for going into cranked amp
I use RV-3, but recently tried a RRR running into a Frazz Dazzler, and that was really nice too. So nice I'm going to get one when money allows me to. Still keeping the RV-3 though. They're both pre-gain champions.

This thread has convinced me that I need a RRR.
