Any particular reason you're going with a 3x12 cab?

That looks cool. I want one! 3x12 is probably the largest non-undersized cabinet that would fit in my car.

ever thought about doing it as a column and having all 4 speakers in it cause it'd lay in the front seat with it kicked back or across the back seat and it would still have all the airspace of a normal box cab.

That'd be pretty cool. Make it audible too. There was an unloaded vertical 4x10 for sale on my local Craigslist today. Tempting, but 10s can be kind of annoying. With 3x12s I could probably fit one in the back seat and one in the trunk. I could fit an undersized 4x12 like an MG412 in my car as well, but what's the point if it's not gonna sound that big? I used to carry a diagonal 2x15 a lot, but I can't remember how I managed the logistics. Bandmate's wagon?

I can be flexible because I play rock band loud (but lower and fuzzier), not doom loud. I just like it to sound wide.

i can get that, also I'm not sure what your car does. I've already built a few of the column speakers with the same airspace. I've done them with 412s and 212s and a 15 in them.

I'd rather have multiple smaller cabs. Ever since I fucked up my knee hauling a V4 & thanked Jah that I didn't have a V4, I've been happy to break things down into smaller consitituent parts.

I chose a 3x12 because I have 2 16 ohm speakers and one 8 ohm speaker. That and I like odd cabs. It's actually only about 4 inches shorter than a standard 4x12.

Not a problem. I love odd cabs so I am sure I will build a column or 2 in the future. I drive a truck so any cab fits really. I wanted to build a 6x12 or a 2x12/1x15 but I had to use what I had laying around.
