GFS Tuners. What to buy? Worth buying?

Post by doommeow »

So I've never had to buy tuning pegs before and need some to install on by baritone neck....

Is GFS worth considering? I know from personal experience that their pickups are hit or miss, but that's mainly due to preference not QC issues. Are any of their tuners worth the cash? If not, what should I be looking at (on a budget)? If yes, any one version/model better than the others?

Also - locking/non locking, don't think I care. Have never used locking, but open to it if they work.

I have a set of their Gotoh-wannabe 3x3 on my bass VI and they seem fine as far as not having to retune all the time :idk:

I just bought these:

They are pretty decent. Better than the crap tuners that come on dirt-cheap Asian guitars, but still inexpensive. Those fit 10mm peg holes perfectly.

One "gotcha" to look out for is that if you order any "vintage style" tuners, make sure that if they include bushings that you also get the set of conversion bushings. Most modern guitars (especially if they are made in Asia) have 10mm peg holes, but the vintage tuners are for 9mm holes. So you need the bushings that fit 10mm holes.
