Any M13 or M9 users?

I convinced my brother to buy an M13 a long time ago when I was really excited about 'effects' and didn't give a shit about 'tone' or 'mojo'.

Anyway I live with my brother now, and he doesn't play too much guitar these days, but he busted out his M13 for me to mess around with and I must say, after not using the thing for a long ass time, this is seriously a great pedal.

Yeah it's big and it's ugly, but I was getting some absolutely bonkers 80s scifi synth toanz with some FM4 models, Octoverb, and Pitch Vibrato. Some of the fuzzes are pretty cool too, not for conventional dirt tones (that's where everyone goes wrong), but for weird, semi-glitchy St. Vincent type stuff I was pleasantly surprised. I'm no modulation expert, but for most mods I can't see something like a Mobius sounding that much better. Granted the Mobius probably has a few more interesting/unique effects to choose from, and it takes up A LOT less space, and cool kid points, but I digress. I had so much fun just playing guitar and messing with tones. It was great.

In short, I don't think this will be kicking any of my cool kid pedals off board, but I definitely want to incorporate it into my rig. I feel stupid for lusting after any sort of modulation when this thing has just been sitting in a closet waiting to be rocked. The only real downside is that I feel like I need some crazy complex MIDI switching rig to make it all work out now

What do you guys think? Is it versatile/fun enough to check out? Is it too lame to be seen with?

I liked my M9 when I had it and only sold it because I had to pay some bills at the time. I didn't get another one because I was tempted into getting some other pedals, but I could get by just fine with an M9 and a few dirt pedals. The only downsize to the M13 to me is the size.

I actually really wanted to pick up a M9 or a long time before I got my DL4. I was mostly looking for a looper, but I figured the other effects wouldn't be detrimental.

my bandmate used an m13 and it was awesome. it is pretty expensive and huge for one pedal, but it's more like a pedalboard than one pedal. he has since sold it and bought a ton of other pedals, which are great, but i think it was a really good choice for a first effect to get a wide variety and learn what you like/want before you fall down the pedal acquisition rabbit hole.

I like the M9, it is a good way to cover a lot of sounds that I don't use all of the time. It's sounds aren't the OMG best but they do the trick. Of course, dirt and a few other pedals needed still.

Love, love, LOVE my M13! While today it mostly sits in a padded 25key keyboard case (prefer individual stomp boxes), I have no intention of selling it.

As far as dirt, I did a direct comparison between it's Big Muff Pi model and the real thing, the emulation was darn close. It loses a bit of dynamic range but for recording or live purposes, it will do fine. Obviously as far as "feel" it lacks a bit. I'm hoping to do a Big Muff Pi comparison for my "More Gear Than Talent" youtube channel.

The beauty of that pedal lies in it's versatility. Pre? Post? Pre AND Post? All good, you decide! It also has 2 expression pedal inputs and each pedal can control the vast majority of parameters on all the pedal models. For example you can have the Tube Screamer fade out and a Big Muff Pi fade with with just a foot sweep.

It's also short bus easy to use. In about 5 minutes I learned how to switch pedals and categories. All Line 6 products should be that simple.

I have an M5 which is great when you're jamming and thinking 'hey this part could really use som xx on it'.

Still not as good the real deal (the delays are great tho) but it's an amazing writing tool.

Really, I used to gig with a Bass POD XT Live, and it was pretty nifty. I quit using it for a bunch of reasons, some of which were rational, some were not. The M9 / 13 gets around some of the issues I had with the POD... le sigh.

I've owned both. Sold the m13 but still have the m9. Super cool and flexible. Better with guitar than bass, but still usable for anything. I only use it as a looper in my room anymore, and it's really great for that. As far as the modulation vs the möbius, the m9 is like 90% there, but that last 10% the möbius has is SO worth it to me. If I was strapped for cash I would sell my Strymons and still be pretty happy with the M9 and it's bells and whistles.

I think an M9 would be the perfect happy medium between size and versatility, but I'm gonna have two full sized boards soon, and I think that one will be for my dirts and normal delays and verb, with the other being housing the M13 for using filters and modulation and other more weird effects. Strangely enough I actually like the looper on the DL4 more. I'll have to mess around with settings more, but something seems kind of off.

The M series is absolutely worth what they cost. I have been having so much fun playing with these past few days. I can't wait to really hit my stride with it and figure out exactly how it will fit in with my rig.

If you're worried about "lame to be seen with", you shouldn't probably be making bonkers sci-fi noises and consider SRV licks!
