GIVE ME ALL THE SYNTHS!

lol. In due time. I'm an analog junky and tend to turn my nose up at digital when it comes to guitar related things..but i hear my tune changing. There's a Nintendo DSi/3DS program called Rytmik Retrobits...If I could make those noises on something other than the 3DS...oh man... :!!!: :!!!: :!!!:

check out LSDJ and Nanoloop if you like 8bit stuff. Also if you software, there are some good 8bit chiptune VST's.
so much gear...

Nano loop is awesome. I imported it from Germany during the first cartridge run way back when. I used the heck out of until my Gameboy started acting screwy toward the end. The original grey Gameboy is analog. The sid is analog too. There is a guy out of Detroit that wrote a bunch of neat Gameboy synths/instruments that are free. You just need to put them on cartridges. I will find it if I can.

I think every Gameboy after the original grey is emulating the analog hardware of the original though.

The SID is a hybrid chip but the sound generators are digital.

That's right, I'm dumb sometimes. Sorry. It's still pretty neat though.

this dude makes some cool chiptune/sid synths
http://twisted-electrons.com/

mGB is a cool rom that turns your gameboy into a 5 channel midi controlled synth.

theres also sammichsid (maybe sid sammich? i always get this mixed up).
and the elektron sid station.
another option is getting a commodore 64 and a mssiah cart to turn your c64 into a 1981 fruity loops kinda thing.

http://www.ucapps.de/midibox_sid.html is the one I always wanted to build.

Found all that gameboy software, you'll need to supply the cart though: http://rhinoplex.org/8cylinder/

.....seriously??
this is gonna put me in the poor house :picard:
Ugh.
This is like crack....I need it all...

TherapSID and the Pocket Piano both look fantstic, and I like the idea of using a gameboy, but I neither have one nor know how to get data on a cart.

haha yea, they look pretty dope. i almost copped an AY3 a couple weeks back. but i got a midi gameboy (w/ midi jacks and arduinoboy built in) instead and have been using mGB.
something about the gameboy that is just so good.

he's a really nice dude too. i chatted a few w/ him back and forth on some questions i had about his devices.
looks like he is dropping a bit crusher and a filter unit too.

I'll give you a little hint to get you going on chipy glitchy sounds with the brute (once the power supply arrives :S)

First sound.
http://bradyjacobsen.com/microbrute/?id=2515

Turn off all the waves except the Triangle have it around 1-3 o'clock. Max out the Brute Factor and the Resonance on the filter in Low Pass (LP) mode. Set the VCA to Gate for max volume all the time. Hold a high note and SLOWLY adjust the filter cutoff; the sweep will find neat feedback loops that glitch out like crazy. After you find a sweet spot. try droning notes and slowly using the pitch bend to hear it also glitch out in a different way.

Second sound.
http://bradyjacobsen.com/microbrute/?id=2516

From the first sound turn down the triangle wave and put in the Pulse wave (square wave). Add PWM from the LFO (patch one of the cables from LFO into the PWM slot. Set the Control for the wave (the knob above the volume for Pulse wave) to about 12 o'clock. Crank the LFO amount and keep the rate super slow. Hold a high note again and listen to the sound of a space bug eating you.

Third Sound

This is just a good Kick Drum sound you could sample it and have a nice fat 909 style analog kick. :)
