Thanks, jwar, I'll have to get some expression with a 10K pot (either that or 10K worth of pot).

That would give you an expression.

Does Toxic Plant oscillate the same way the 46 can, with vol. pot controlling pitch and everything?nad wrote:
The Toxic Plant robs a lot of lowsbut is otherwise awesome!
To clarify and obfuscate: I don't see the lows' thievery as a problem with this pedal, given its whacky nature and all.

No. Toxic plan has a freq knob that can be controlled with an expression pedal.alexsga wrote:Does Toxic Plant oscillate the same way the 46 can, with vol. pot controlling pitch and everything?nad wrote:

how would you compare the 46 with the toxic plant?
I know they're different beasts....how do their oscillation noisey stuffs compare?

Re: Lastgasp Art Laboratories
The 46 is a badass fuzz with a switchable tone circuit. No oscillations, not that crazy, just a solid awesome fuzz (my favorite, use it constantly). I will say that it only has moderate sustain.
Are you thinking of the 88 with the 6 switches? That one oscillates and is fun, but it is an oscillating fuzz with a bunch of filters and gain stages.
The toxic plant is a disharmonic distortion. It's like running a high gain distortion through a kind of note sensitive ring mod. It's awesome and gets great sounds but you have to learn to play it either by playing different notes that sound good together or by using the exp pedal to change the ring mod freq to play a moving kind of pitch shift. They are not similar at all. Two notes right next to each other make the two different sounds come out. One might sound fairly distorted, the next might be a bell-like chime, and the next might be dirty septic fuzz.
I enjoy the toxic plant for noisy stuff but I have always loved ring mods. It's kind of what I used to play in my band when all I used was a frequency analyzer and some boss heavy metal pedal into a dirty sovtek. I think the toxic plant is more my taste but it is harder to use I would think.
The 88 is a great osc fuzz with options. Not that loud though. It is good for sculpting and using with other stuff.
The 46 is my always on normal fuzz tone these days. I love the sound of it with the gain at 3o'clock, tone cranked and switch on one. The only thing really quirky about it is sometimes i get a quick burst of static when I first hit the strings. Otherwise it is a good normal fuzztone.

Re: Lastgasp Art Laboratories
^^^ I agree with all the above, except I can get my 46 to oscillate!
It's not wild/crazy/exotic like the 88, but will still squeal good if you want it to.
The Toxic Plant needed more lows and/or volume to be useful for me on bass. The 46 has plenty of both, and while it is pretty tame compared to the TP, it really shines n' grinds in a mix. Either thick and huge or cutting and gnarly, absolutely perfect fuzz for those I'm-only-bringing-one-pedal occasions.
I'm trying to figure out how to get the Misty Cave on my big board, just not sure I can give up a fuzz pedal to make the room. But that one is so much fun for weird yet pretty nights, if that makes any sense. In spirit of tone, it is almost the softer, gentler alternative to a ring mod.

Re: Lastgasp Art Laboratories
Sometimes I wonder if it's my jaguar hh that gives me a little different experience with pedals. I get a little bit of a static osc or something but it doesn't sustain. I do agree that the toxic plant is a little light on the volume And it doesn't like being second to a fuzz.
Both my 46 and Octavella get really compressed when I use the neck humbucker. I have to dial off the gain a bit to keep the volume up (and most of the time I stick to the bridge pickup).
46 is freaking awesome. It's always with my guitar. Have you tried it with the thunder boxx? Freaking awesome.

Re: Lastgasp Art Laboratories
I haven't tried the Thunder Boxx, I can only imagine it would make Mode 2 even more massive sounding!
Normally anything even remotely mentioning mid scoop scares the pants right off me, but ol' 46 & 2 does it just right.

The Steroid O.D. was discontinued. Maybe new pedals are coming soon?

Apparently they kept being pushed back because of high demand for his existing stuff. Thinning out the ranks might make new designs emerge faster.

That was my thinking too. I kind of wonder what the mike Patton project thing will end up being. I also assume that the Steriod OD was the least popular.Eivind August wrote:Apparently they kept being pushed back because of high demand for his existing stuff. Oh, that demo of the 88 was beyond awesome. It should be included in this thread for posterity.
Any idea what the new prototypes are? I've heard reverb, but hopefully a tremolo and a reboot of the 87? I can wish.

Yeah, the Steriod seemed like his least special pedlol. Never tried one, though.
Hm, I know he had a prototype for a tremolo, a "crushy od" and "some kind of wave shaper", and the reverb is definitely confirmed. Last time I talked with him, he said he had planned an 87 reboot (
Going back to Japan in a couple of weeks, and I'll look for an 87 until my eyes bleed and I'm coughing blood.

I've been scouring yahoo jp daily for stuff and nothing. I hope the new line comes soon, been excited for a while. LAL waveshaper could be awesome.Eivind August wrote: Hm, I know he had a prototype for a tremolo, a "crushy od" and "some kind of wave shaper", and the reverb is definitely confirmed. I should talk to my friend, he goes there from the uk twice a year [his girlfriend is from there]. My Wife has no interest in going cause she knows it will turn into a gear hunt. Or I would just go to punk shows.
Have a blast in Japan.

Thanks. You should go over there some time, the "indie" scene is great. Went to concerts like half of the nights I was there last time. And those music stores...
Hey, lemme know if there's anything you'd like me to be on the lookout for.
