I feel that. I was most impressed with the clean.

The clean on this amp is very versatile. I know the current version has an option for a different voicing switch to offer a choice between a fender and marshall style clean. Mine has the three-way bright switch which allows you to get perfect sparkly cleans without sacrificing the perfect EQ for the gain channel.Bellyheart wrote:I feel that. Re: I want a Science Amplifier
so I'm looking to get a hellhawk. I'm torn between the 50watt and 100watt. Difference in price is not really a factor. Anyone out there want to help me make a pro/con list? More headroom and oomph in the 100watter, maybe better breakup in the 50 watter? I've never owned a fully tube head, only hybrid or SS. I want to be able to go relatively clean at band volume, which is loud enough for house shows, but not full on doom ridiculous. For comparisons, my favorite bands these days are Portugal the Man, War on Drugs, and Strand of Oaks; but the guys I jam with mostly do a sort of post punk/garage punk vibe. I'd love to be able to do both really well with just the one amp. Or if there is a totally different amp I should get I'm open, I just think these are the sexiest.

I am just tired of old amps? I mean, they fucking rule buy like these fresh, reasonably priced, ingenious and gloriously beautiful specimens that are NEW just have my pants all bothered. Will be the most I've ever spent on new gear ever but I couldn't be more ready to do it.

I almost always choose more power over less when an amp has a master volume and the main tone is from preamp gain. The 100watter will be significantly tighter in the bass and the cleans will have more headroom and punch as a general rule. The softness of a 50 watter by comparison can be desirable for some folks though.PeteeBee wrote:so I'm looking to get a hellhawk. I'm torn between the 50watt and 100watt. So i was able to Snag Shannons Kt88 Decolonzier since he was offing gear to help his friend out and i must say i'm beyond impressed.. the clean and mid gain tones in it are insane! I'm in love.. As of right now it makes me hate my mesa mark iv as it sounds thin and lifeless in comparison!

That's the low mid emphasis of a Marshall-style tone stack vs. the high mids of the Mesa tone stack. Total different sound and I agree with you 100%.Nateispro wrote:So i was able to Snag Shannons Kt88 Decolonzier since he was offing gear to help his friend out and i must say i'm beyond impressed.. the clean and mid gain tones in it are insane! Re: I want a Science Amplifier
That's exactly the type of answer I was hoping for. Thanks a bunch! I think I'll go 100. I do love those loose, saggy tones, but I'd rather get them another way like a SSBS mini with the Bias real low.whoismarykelly wrote:I almost always choose more power over less when an amp has a master volume and the main tone is from preamp gain. I'm all like this thinking about the amp:

I've had my Mark IV for years and i've slowly come to really dislike the tones in it.. The mid gain sucks, the cleans are anemic to me know and the high gain is too smooth and doesn't have enough punch. The mid gain and clean tones on the Decolonizer are just heaven

Yea IIRC he sold off his Dunwich and Science to help a friend cover some expensive medical bills.

Re: I want a Science Amplifier
I noticed his Dunwich was sold. I assumed it was something serious since that was a custom project and was one of a kind. I hope it works out them.
