Viet Cong
They put out their debut last month and there are some really great tunes on here. I dig all the off kilter rhythms. WHAT SAY YE?

Love this album. My wife told someone it was Joy Division meets the Beatles. With some Interpol and Wolf Parade thrown in the mix. Pretty damn accurate.

it's two dudes from WOMEN. at first i wasn't sure about the increased GOTH quotient of this band, but they have won me over. this is a really cool album.
although, i must say....these guys pick terrible band names.

Cool album, bad band name, great live band (I saw them live in Montreal last year).

This is like when you see someone who's really good looking at the bar but when you get home and the clothes start coming off you get less and less impressed, and then you see the Death Cab tattoo and your nether bits refuse to function in protest.
In other words, I like the stuff they've stolen from the Touch and Go catalog. The rest is pretty meh.

Re: Viet Cong
i like the album.
having said that, i would like it more if the mental association to Women wasn't there (because i love that band and Viet Cong doesn't satisfy my lust for new Women-tier Women songs, especially in that the songs are a bit varied and not quite as cohesive as a whole).

That description sounds so cool and right up my alley, BUTneonblack wrote:Love this album. My wife told someone it was Joy Division meets the Beatles. With some Interpol and Wolf Parade thrown in the mix. Pretty damn accurate.
this is also true and I'm sick of the WOMEN/Wolf Parade sound now. Too much at once in my early youth.D.o.S. wrote:This is like when you see someone who's really good looking at the bar but when you get home and the clothes start coming off you get less and less impressed, and then you see the Death Cab tattoo and your nether bits refuse to function in protest.

Yeah, I've never heard Women before, so this is pretty fresh for me.

They had a show cancelled because of their name. Moop.
I've been spinning the record heavily, figuring out the riffs and such. The drumming is stellar.

Frankly, seems like a name some out of touch white guys would choose….
**EDIT.
And…... using this thing called "google," the story presents itself:
http://pitchfork.com/news/58694-viet-co ... band-name/
Matt Flegel where he brushed off objections to the band's name. "Vietnamese immigrants—the Vietnamese Canadians and Vietnamese Americans—will write us an email saying that their family was tortured by the Viet Cong for five years in a prison camp. ... It's just a band name. It's just what we called ourselves."
