Has anyone modded an Ernie Ball Jr. vol pedal?
I'm considering getting an EB jr. but from what I'm reading online it seems they throw a blanket over your sound. There are a couple of websites offering mods to remedy the problem, but they're all based in America, so I was thinking of just buying one and doing the mod myself, but can't find much info.

Take the blanket off and just don't use the silly tuner out.... unless you have active electronics or something there is really no noticeable change that warrant any kind of mod. IMHO
That string pulling on the pot concept is the biggest weakness of that thing. Why can't I have a vexter probe-style volume control?

Skully has before, though I don't remember what he did exactly.

This. True on both accounts.lapsteel wrote:Take the blanket off and just don't use the silly tuner out.... unless you have active electronics or something there is really no noticeable change that warrant any kind of mod. IMHO

Plenty of peda tuners out there are trye bypass, or have a good enough buffer, don't bother modding the tuner out.
The sweep on the VP jr is great, and its size and weight are perfect too imo. The string is ridiculous though, it makes the pedal unreliable and fragile.

I'll need to do another check, but I think the main idea behind the mod was putting a buffer before the tuner, and that even the regular Out can sound bad. Somehow putting a buffer at the tuner out somehow fixes that....
Does the main output sound fine?
The sweep is what I've read nothing but good about, and it's size is ideal for me.

I've heard that using a buffer in front of the VPJr fixes the problem. That might be worth a shot?

If I can find a EBJr. cheap then I'll probably just do that. They seem to have a lot of room under the panel so I could just stick one in there.

They are a pain to mod unless you make a PCB that can fit everything on it. I've modded two in the past but they were really tight fits in terms of trying to house it on the plate where the jacks are. Like you said there is ample room on the bottom of the enclosure though
