Reverb..... dot com

Post by Dark Barn »

What sort of person shops on Reverb.com? I'm just curious. Here is my personal story:

I had a Zvex Fuzz Factory 7 I was trying to sell. I had it listed here, Talkbass, and The Gear Page for upwards of a month, almost 2, at various times.

I did get repeated trade offers on the Gear Page, from one guy, the same guy, with the same trade offer. 3 times. But otherwise it got no attention.

Then I decided to give reverb a shot. And the Zvex was sold within 2 hours. At $20 higher asking price than I had it listed for anywhere else! What?

So I am wondering, what is the demographic on Reverb? Was my buyer an extreme outlier or does the average Reverb shopper not bother to look for better deals outside of Reverb.com? The only time I check reverb personally is after exhausting other avenues when looking for something specific. Maybe that is because its new to me.
I've been searchin' for the dolphins in the sea.

There are good deals to be had if you do your homework. Plus some unique pedals show up there, I've scored some choice ghost effects and creepy fingers etc.

I just bought my first item off Reverb last week. Most times I'll just search for pedal companies or specific pedals that I'm GASing for and compare them to other websites. Most times I don't see items listed much cheaper on Reverb than other sites, but it does seem like less of a crap shoot than eBay.

I just sold my Mobius in five minutes over there. Should have asked for more.

Yeah I sold two pedals earlier today within two hours over there. Demographic obviously has money, looks for deals, and is apparently used to paying retail price for pedals

I've had a lot of good experiences selling and buying on Reverb. Miles better than eBay.

I really like Reverb so far, too.

Love selling on Reverb. Aside from the occasion absurd lowball, everything seems to go pretty close to asking price, if you're reasonable.

There's always the guy who sells his pedals for WAY lower than he should. My Context being the best example, I got for $120. :idk: I like reverb, but I prefer trading over selling straight out, so I don't do much business there.

Good for seller, great for buyers.

Ebay is shit for both ends.

I think it's also a case of forums being very cliquey in what they are prepared to spend money on, and in the case of ILF we are mostly a bunch of miserly bastards.

Edit: Also I'd guess the traffic at reverb is a lot greater than any of the BSTs at a forum. And ebay sucks, as pointed out, so there's that too.

Reverb is great. Easy negotiating if people want to make offers and a fantastic listing interface. Plenty of good deals to be had. Its the first place I look now. I can buy stuff instantly instead of waiting for some forum goof to get back to me.

I like it for selling (can't recall if I bought anything on there). I tried to sell a bass vi here and on ebay with no luck. On Reverb within hours of being plus they showcased it on their facebook.

eBay is getting flat out weird lately. I've had fairly good luck but I am thinking reverb might just be a heck of a lot easier. eBay is just cryptic now. People have seemed more willing to spend on Reverb than on ebay. It seems like they market to the crowd that reads magazine reviews and the nostalgia crowd. Like the same dudes that buy a finished hot rod instead of a rust bucket they might fix.
