This piece of metal was super thin. I'm surprised that I actually used it, cause it's that thin. I've gone a little thicker and its just been a pain. But this was super easy to cut with shears.
And the stripes are tape! I dig em

Did you file down the sides to smooth them out or anything?
Anytime I've done anything with sheet metal, it's been sharp as fuck and cut the hell out of me.

Yeah I took a dremel sander to the edge of it all and smoothed it out so that it wouldn't slice my hand at all!

Ughhhhh, Mascis GAS rising again. The main reason I want it is they're so pretty, having a jazzmaster and a thick neck guitar would also be nice. But do I have enough white fender offsets already? I'd love to just get a gold pickguard for the bass vi but that doesn't seem like an easy thing to do.

Re: Let's see your GUITAR!
It's become my main guitar! The neck is just so awesome on its own. The only thing that's a little weird is how flat the bridge is compared to the neck radius. And I'm not digging the neck pickup at all. But I actually really like the bridge pickups (and I never like stock pickups). And with a good set up and proper fret cleaning it plays and feels like a thousand bucks!

I tried a couple of retrofit TOM bridges on mine and something always felt off with the action. I feel like that style of bridge is just not appropriate for a jazzmaster at all. The best was one with adjustable roller saddles but even that felt a little off and would pop strings regularly.
Mastery upgrade would definitely fix that but you need to change the thimbles which are glued in, and the mastery is overpriced and kinda uncomfortable to rest against.
Otherwise, literally best guitar you can get in that price range, unbelievably cool instrument. The tonal quality of the pickups is subjective but i thought the output from them was perfect, nothing i've ever had has played so nicely with pedals before.

They're not that expensive either. Fuck.

*chucks wallet across the room with eyes closed in hope of not finding it*
But it has a C-shaped neck, no? GAS is slightly reduced, as I prefer a soft V/smaller D (twss).

Yeah, I love the roller bridge I got for it but it's still definitely a little flat compared to the neck. It's not terrible and I have my action low enough to where it plays just right. I feel like the bone nut also made a difference in the set up and feel. It intonates great and doesn't go out of tune. I pick really hard and tune to C# standard with 12-52's. I think it just needs a little TLC out of the box for it to come alive. I can't put mine down when I pick it up. I've had $1000+ guitars that don't feel this good.
As for the pickups, the neck I feel is too dark and dull. The bridge sounds great. Thick and articulate and a little hot to drive a tube amp real nice. It's a hair squeally when rung out with a lot of drive, but I kind of expected that. I doubt these are potted or anything. I'm still debating if I want to swap them or keep giving them a little longer. I never play the neck pickup, so it doesn't bother me that I don't care for it. I do want to try a Novak JM-180 though.

It's more of a thick, chunky D. All across the board.
