Yep, exactly that. You can't adjust its volume anymore (it stays where it was when you switched to another preset) but you can adjust the volume of the current delay with a dedicated knob so you can tweak things easily before switching and then dynamically adjust the volume of the second (i.e. current) loop. Also, you can easily make the second loop a multiple/division of the length of the first one (or something else entirely). There's a button that switches between predefined variations of the selected delay time and you can always tweak the big knob to adjust the delay time in ms.
Really, this pedal has more features than tons of other supposedly more advanced loopers. If it had 4 tracks with independant volume/feedback control it would be my perfect looper... Rock-solid timing too, in my experience.

TC Electronics Nova Repeater. Infinite repeats with no oscillation. Turn on spillover, crank the delay time and repeats all the up, play something, turn the pedal off. Pseudo-looping!

I'm gonna throw more props at the DD20. The thing I love most about it is like, when yr looping stuff on a delay mode and nudge the feedback knob down just a smidge, the loop will naturally fade out. You can do this like when you want to go to the next loop with the preset switch as well - nudge it down a bit and go to the next preset, and it'll fade away as you build up the next loop. Absolutely essential for my drone stuff.
Have you tried the warp mode on the DD-20? I plugged in a piano sustain pedal into the back expression pedal jack, and set the expression function to ON/OFF. I then placed the piano sustain pedal right in front of the DD-20's on/off switch. This allows the piano pedal to act as a soft/momentary (as long as you're holding it down) on/off switch. I can also press the DD-20's on/off switch in warp mode and have the infinite repeats going, and then rock my foot back (while still holding the DD-20's on/off switch) and turn the pedal off, but still have the repeats playing infinitely (as long as I keep pressing down on the DD-20's on/off switch). I can then play on top of that (though without delay), and even rock my foot back and record on top of that. The original will fade as soon as you press the footswitch down again though. With shorter delay times you can get infinite rhythmic repeats, and with longer delay times you can have whole phrases repeating.
