NPD: jerms MkI Tone Bender

Post by devnulljp »

Some time last year, Jim Roth (of Built to Spill -- a great player and great builder ... don't you just hate those multitalented mofos, especially when they're thoroughly nice guys too?) mentioned that he had snagged a bunch of NOS 2G381 transistors, so I immediately got on him about building some MkI Tone Benders.
Lookee what just came in the mail...
Gold Hammerite just like the original.
One OC71 and a pair of 2G381s.
Big mojo caps.
This thing kicks all the ass. Twice. Turn the Attack right down, and it sputters and gates like a Maestro Fuzztone, about 1/2 way up, just before about 12oclock, is a real sweetspot where it sustains but there's a nice sag to it, 3/4 up and more it just sings.
Huge just like the original too (see pic at bottom compared to a Boss pedal)
