RAT LAB

Post by nbabmf »

Inspired by the Beavis Fuzz Lab, FKR, etc... I'm converting a ProCo Roadkill (aka GC exclusive, rebranded Brat from the 90's) to the most versatile Rat in existence.

And it all starts here:

Oh man, that Beavis fuzzlab is insane. I can't imagine something that could surpass it. Good luck with making it. :thumb:
Do you like listening to homemade music? Me too. Why don't you try one of mine?

The Fuzz Lab cost hundreds of dollars to build. I'm probably not going to go that far, but I will make it pretty ridiculous in terms of switches and knobs. I want as many useful sounds as possible.

Here's what I'm thinking so far... toggle switches for diodes in the feedback loop (Brat/Roadkill) and a variety of clipping options (germanium, silicon, and LED - all the main Rat variations), two versions of the Ruetz mod on pots for variable distortion character, and a voltage sag control with a voltage meter.

I'm open to more ideas!

You really want to go insane?

Add two sets of variable capacitors for the LM308's compensation cap. Then a switch to go between them. 51pf makes for a darker sound than the stock 30/33pf part.

Then put in a ZIF socket so it is easy to swap opamps. Like this:

And then, perhaps, a 12AU7 boost in front...
