Eh, it's what you do with the pedals. You can make any pedal sound good given patience and knowledge.

Which is why most of us here worship boutique brands and $200 fuzz peds with fancy paint jobs and nifty names?

I've never paid $200 for a guitar pedal.

Liking small builders is not the same as being able to make a given pedal sound good in context. Besides, tons of highly influential albums were made entirely with the cheapest gear imaginable, and some studio loaners. We're only a small niche (albeit an awesome one

Don't know if this has been posted before...
Adrian Belew
Don't get discouraged by the ax fx stuff in the beginning, skip to 7:55ish for the "magic closet".
Lots of ILF stuff.

Me either. Loved Growing, until Color Wheel, but did not care for their stuff after that. Will be interested in checking this out.
Sky's Running Into The Sea is one of my favorite album covers ever (and the album is rad, too), but I definitely lost a bit of interest when they stopped being a big amp band.
Have you heard their jam with Comets on Fire? Is tasty.

I'll go ahead and post Whirr's gear discussion right along with Nothing's. There's some pretty hilarious moments involved. These guys love fucking with folks.

My favorite is when they trick people into thinking that they're a good band.

Haha, agreed. I can get down with their pals Nothing but I'm not a Whirr fan. I liked that "rig rundown", though.

I feel like the dudes in Whirr are the type of people that would say "that's funny" and show no hint of amusement. Its like a weird mix of trying too hard and being dead inside.

I got through two minutes of that Whirr rig rundown before I said "this is lame". Part it's that guy's voice, mostly it's the forced absurd humour.
