Lets talk glitch pedals

Post by wdinc01 »

I just want to see everyone's opinion between the Possessed, the Raptio, the MA Count To Five, the Goodbye 24, the HEXE Revolver (I think? I'm not too familiar with it), or any other pedals that chops and screws up your sound.

I have a Possessed, and I like it, but I'm questioning whether I would prefer a Raptio or a Count To Five. What say you?

Also, did anyone get an Anti-Nautilus? No? Okay, just checking.

There's already a relatively new and pretty big thread on glitchy pedals. Might not answer all of your questions, but maybe give you GAS for a pedal or two:

I have the Raptio and Goodbye 24. They be cool pedals. I kinda want a Possessed too, though. So I guess you should get all your suggestions. Then you could say "I've got 99 problems, but teh glitch ain't one". HAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAA. Now wouldn't that be hilarious.

Don't forget the MWFX Glitch and Judder, they seem pretty cool too! :)
Between Raptio and Count To Five I'd say the latter because it seems more different from the Possessed, more versatile than the Raptio and I think it'll make for some pretty interesting results when paired with the Possessed.

^ As an avid Raptio-fan I agree. The Raptio is very specific in its uses, if you just need stutter and freeze it's the perfect pedal, but if you want more general glitchiness, the CT5 would probably be more usefull, espesially paired with the Possessed.

totally depends what you're after, those pedals are all completely different
HEXE revolver is definitely the most floor-friendly and versatile unit i think, easy to time samples and you can control speed with an expression pedal, does a lot of stuff but once you find a setting you don't really need to tweak anything
i like the Possessed just as much but for different reasons, those fucked up sounds when you tweak the smell knob and the clicking beating glitches i haven't had in any other pedal before. it's like venetian snares in a box.
GB24 is cool but idk if i'd call it a 'glitch' pedal per se, CT5 more so but i've not tried that one.

but basically keep the possessed and buy all the rest too.

I was afraid that was the answer. I want to love the Possessed, and maybe I just need to play with it more, but I just haven't gotten it to where I want to get. Part of the problem is that it's kind of a shot in the dark trying to figure out what does what, and since everything is intractable with each other, it's even harder. Plus, I haven't found any solid instructions on what each knobs does (I also haven't looked in a while). I know that deep down, I should just get all of them, or at least a Count To Five. I'll buy anything Scott builds. I love him so much. Or an Anti-Nautilus, but that would solve anyone's problems.

I'll run through that other thread as well. I figured there was already one, but I wanted to get a solid shootout going. WAIT THAT'S THE ANSWER! Guys, send me your glitch pedals and I'll do a shootout! And that will decide once and for all if I should keep my Possessed or flip it for something else.

I'll let you know when I come through Austin! It'll probably be in March (unless I can get some job interviews down there by some miracle)

I have all the pedals you've listed, plus the MWFX glitch and judder. I would also add the red panda particle to the list. The judder is probably my favoite as far as getting unpredictable glitches, it's really incredible. The newest for me is the revolver and i am still getting to know it but am blown away by how versatile and precise it is, it is probably the most predictable and best sounding of them all....I think it has the potential to be one of my favorite pedals period. All of the hexe pedals I own share a certain sound that is very pleasing. The MWFX glitch is pretty special too, you can shift the pitch of the glitching to get new and exciting sounds that range from stutters to flowing water. The raptio is really great but limited compared to all of the rest, I still find its essential. The possessed was the first glitch pedal I bought and it was maybe the hardest to figure out, but keep at it as there are a lot of cool sounds in it...i really like when it is glitching out arpeggios. The gb24 can get interesting sounds but maybe not as glitchy as the count to five can get with its mode 2 and 3. but I think of them in a different way from the other pedals in this group, not as random glitchy sounds makers.

the bottom line...get them all as they each have their pecular charms and uses. :joy:

just a note on the possessed. there is a very nice video on vimeo that explains what all the controls do.

at one point i made up some weird word association in my head w/ the 5 senses to what they do, but i forgot what they were.
