Ampeg v4 vs v2 cabs
I have an ampeg v2 cab with original cts speakers in it, I play bass with my awesome traynor Yba-3 custom special. Just picked up a beat up ampeg v4 cab all original. Wondering other people's thoughsts on these, which is better for bass. Other people's experiences with either. The v4 may be as heavy as its big brother the v2, these cabs are for sure beasts. Thanks dudes!

i have a v4 cab and it's a goddamned wonder. i don't have the original speakers (using eminence cannabis rex and private jacks), but they're a great, generally cheap way to get a SOLID cab.. it stopped my lust for emperor cabs almost immediately.

I love my v2 cab to death, I run it with an 810 and a V4 as the head and it's the perfect bass cab for punk/hardcore. I'm going to put new speakers in it soon, but other than that it's rad.

Re: Ampeg v4 vs v2 cabs
I've had both and kept the v2 cab. I use them for guitar though. I took out the inside lining and put Eminence speakers inside. My V2 has two governors and two cannabis rex. The ports make it a little boomy, but not too distracting. The v4 cab was always too directional when I had it. I had it loaded with greenbacks, sounded great but would get lost in the mix too easily.
As far as bass, I'd recommend blocking the ports, insulating the inside, and upgrading the speakers. I never liked the stock speakers. But that's if you want to push heavy lows with big volumes. For all I know the stock speakers can be giving you all you want just as is through the Traynor (I also play a YBA-3). I have two V2 cabs, one has the stock speakers, and it just collects dust.
