Jeff caxide used the boss ps-3 yeah? Could be cool. A PDS 20/20 or 8000 or something would get you there as well for sure.

Hmm, I could loan you my Hardwire DL-8 while you loan me your DMM? ;)

Getting Tristan's RI DMM would actually be quite cheaper for me :D still above that though. And again trying to make things clear - I'm not necessarily looking for something that can do DMM sounds. I'm just looking for a delay to put in the empty space vacated by the DMM, literally :)
Understood. FWIW,.....something interesting with vintage DMMs; they tend to be at their noisiest/maximum white noise in repeats when fed a clean signal from the lower strings and the Delay time is above ~300ms. Open E on guitar and up the first few frets are enough to really bring it out of my DMMs. Bass with flatwounds really gets "windy"
Most analog delays tend to display similar behavior (except the Carbon Copy) and as a result do not "cut" in most applications.

So maybe go for the Carbon Copy. I still need to grab another (only sold to help fund a rare pedal and CCs can be had from anywhere)

Flashback... It's got pages of bass toneprints, check their vids... Pretty much what you're describing and is cheap...

Love my malekko 616 dark. Great interesting tone that gets out of the way. The first couple repeats can be rhythmic, after that they're just filling in space a bit. I like how the modulation seems to modulate darker... Like the opposite of a shimmer. And the buffer is great. Basically no complaints from me at all.
It filled in next toy flashback because mostly used the analog setting on that, freeing it up for other weird stuff like reverse. Thing is I like the 616 more for everything. Flashback is getting the boot once I get a dedicated looper.

Big fan of the Belle Epoch. Decays and modulates beautifully. Great sounding preamp (makes a great fuzzstortion when hit hard). Love setting the Rec Level at the edge of breakup so that the repeats distort at volume swell peaks. Love getting my Justin Trosper on with this thing :joy:

they really should've made the input gain trim an external pot though

while mentioning the Flashback and such... I just realized we have an Alter Ego and an Alter Ego X4 at our store (also a T2... and i thought theyy were PGS exclusive?). I was quite pleasantly surprised by some of the algorithms, might do some in-depth testing next week :) That might be an interesting choice if i want cleaner and digital, but like those character-oriented circuits such as DMM, Echorec etc... Have to spend some time with it though

the X4 is quite expensive even with my discount and is too huge though  but man... does it seem worth it :)

Disaster Transport Sr? Lunar Echo from DMB. It's often overlooked and a really great analog delay, with lots of controls. Most demos on the youtubes blow, though.

Do this.

The bassist before the bassist before the previous bassist in my band had a DL-8 and it sounded awesome, and also had a short (8 sec??) looping function. It was one of those delays that just sat well in the mix.

That's actually not a bad idea. It does a surprisingly good job at mimmicking analog delay tones, and it's clear and present enough compared to a lot of analog delays that tend to be too mushy and dark. Not sure if you care at all, but it's got a dry out, just like your dmm if I'm not mistaking. Also ofcourse, it's dirt cheap, meaning you can pend whatever you're saving on some other nice toy :)

Yeah, another DL8 vote here. I'll admit, the price tag was a also a big factor when I had to choose between the DL8 or a DD7, but other than those two, I can't think of many other versatile all-in one digital delays that are affordable and don't take up too much precious board space. Like you said, it just sits well in the mix, better so than my old DD-5 which wasn't even too shabby eather. I guess it's down to personal taste, I'm kinda picky when it comes to the sound of the repeats, especially in a loud band context.

"In general, I think I'd like to go digital this time (includes analogue-voiced digi delays of course)"

That, plus the $339 price tag, would probably rule out the indeed otherwhise super awesome DMB.

Don't get me wrong - I'd love to try some of those exquisite delays some day, there's no prejudice against expensive gear. But I'm sort of trying not to buy pedals which would cost the same money as my instrument did

and it would cost me the majority of the money I have at my disposal right now. Including the money for a new kitchen table

when mentioning the Boss DD series... no love for the RV-3 I initially asked about as well?

I do already have the AW7, had PH7 and played FZ7, so I know they are cool pedals... but the damn unreliable switching :/
