Re: Need to retire DMM from gigging -> need replacement
Haha had both (borrowed the XO while the DMM broke before a show) and didn't really like them. Liked the AD9 but it was a bit too dark for me. Cool for some things, but probably not for what i do

I'm not a purist, but some delays just don't really sound or react right to me

I agree on the DMM XO, the Deluxe Memory Boy is much better in my opinion but the DMM 550TT is yet another story, for some reason I think it sounds, feels and plays better and more akin to the real DMM.

I'm Czech and it's not cool to know it's a universal phenomenon
In general, I think I'd like to go digital this time (includes analogue-voiced digi delays of course)

Put in a +1 for the disaster transport, which plays great with synth, bass, bass vi, baritone and guitar. It's really versatile sounding even before you stomp on the modulation. However, I've got a vintage big box DMM and wouldn't call them similar really.

Re: Need to retire DMM from gigging -> need replacement
My prepared answer is "another DMM"

But in lieu of that, ILFDD. There are a few for sale in the B/S/T. Grab one if you don't already own it!

Re: Need to retire DMM from gigging -> need replacement
Ah well... with the currency rates, those are WAY above my budget
Getting Tristan's RI DMM would actually be quite cheaper for me
still above that though. And again trying to make things clear - I'm not necessarily looking for something that can do DMM sounds. I'm just looking for a delay to put in the empty space vacated by the DMM, literally

Re: Need to retire DMM from gigging -> need replacement
Right, hmm, maybe the first real question to answer then is whether you want modulation or not.
The second question I'd ask you is whether the stuff you do with delay on bass tends to be more on the rhythmic or more on the cloudy / washy side.
I don't know whether it's also the case on bass but the specific quality of the DMM on guitar, apart from it's gorgeous sound, is it's ability to go from a rhythmic to a cloudy / washy delay just by changing your playing style, other delays that can do this are quite scarce in my experience.

Re: Need to retire DMM from gigging -> need replacement
Oh well as I've mentioned - my use of delay on bass is usually a bit more rhythmic, with sort of Jeff Caxide (isis) or Justin Chancellor (tool) influences. I love when delay can become a part of the riff. I do use delay to get "bigger" as well, but for those purposes, I tend to use reverb as well (or reverb into delay... or I might get massive reverb pedal for just that, too...)
I like modulation for sure, but just subtle. I also hated the Chorus mode on the DMM and find Vibrato WAY superior - i like modulation thicker and not as glassy.
I also like repeats that are filtered and that saturate in an interesting way, blending well frequency-wise with the original signal. My favourite delays so far have been the DMM, Disaster Transport and Wampler Faux Tape Echo (non-tap)
However, I did just massively expand the BST thread interests because I sort of realized I mainly want to try new stuff. I don't necessarily have a strict aim. There are pedals I've been interested in but haven't got around to try them - like Catalinbread Belle Epoch or Echorec. This thread exist mainly because I was hoping for some recommendations, which i'm thankful for, because some would not occur to me - however it's not like "Tell me what to buy" more like "tell me what you like so I can maybe check it out or at least be on a look-out for it"
ps: anything I've said about any pedals in this thread comes out of my guitar playing experience. Haven't tried the Memory Boy on bass (only heard a Memory Toy on bass and it sounded pretty good!), never played the XO DMM with bass, never played DT or Faux Tape Echo with bass. I've been playing bass in bands since the beginning of this year, so pretty much everything feels new and un-explored to me

Re: Need to retire DMM from gigging -> need replacement
thanks!
Sometimes I wish I could have a boad big enough to always have one of the PDS pedals on
used to have a 20/20 and I really miss it sometimes...
ps: it's really funny how some people say that clearer delays work better on bass and some people straight up recommend things like Malekko Dark or AD9
love that nothing is ever universal

Jeff caxide used the boss ps-3 yeah? Could be cool. A PDS 20/20 or 8000 or something would get you there as well for sure.
