Thanks, Tristan.
Yeah, I haven't been wowed by the Bit Commander demos I've heard.
Second Voice's probably out of the running due to the seeming scarcity.
Interestingly enough, this thread is indirectly the result of hearing that Pedals & Effects demo w/ Tim Lefebvre. I'm intrigued by the Octabvre.
So, jwar, how you liking that?

I can vouch for the Cubic as well. Actually got one on Dan's recommendation and I've been very pleased. Its only octave down, but it replaced my second voice and I haven't missed it.
The only thing I can see myself replacing it with is a SubT.

I flipped it...................................
Honestly it wasn't that great. The knobs did not seem to change the tone that much. I was super unimpressed to be honest. From what I can tell it's a duplicate of the OC2 with some very minor tweaks. Plus the volume level on it was fucking terrible.
Now you may think I'm nuts but honestly the best non multi effect octave I've played in the Merdian Funkulator. The filter side of it sucks, but the octave side is fucking amazing. If he would release it just as the octave, it's be the best octave pedal out there IMO. Super synthy.
I'll try and make a demo. Of course I say that and I have like 10 I've never uploaded. Lol

Dwarfcraft Gears?
Not exactly a sub octave, but a squarewave generated one or two octaves below the source...

SHould have this bad boy out in January.

Also I want to stick my gears in that pedal.

Thanks, jwar. I just listened to those Funkulator demos. Difficult to tell anything from 'em. Not really interested in the envelope filter part of it. I'd love to hear your demo of it though.
That Gears sounds great, Aen. Somehow I missed all the talk about that. Interested in hearing a longer demo.

Ah, I thought you'd surely heard of that and I didn't know about any release date that's why I didn't mention it but that Gears thingamadoo seems pretty awesome indeed.
I like the OC-2 too by the way, I thought the Octabvre was a rendition of that, I hoped they had done something about the volume drop which they apparently didn't if I interpret jwar's story correctly.

Re: Octave (up and/or down) w/ a low-pass filter?
Well to my ears there's not much of a difference. Maybe a little volume boost from the original but not nearly enough. Especially if you were using this in a band setting, I just don't see how it could work without overdriving the shit out of it.
Also I noticed very little difference in tone from changing settings. It's just not that intuitive and feels a bit rushed to me. The sub octave is the worst part about it too. It just sounded like mud through my Mesa.
If you smash a fuzz into it, it's ok, but don't play fast or any chords. LOL. Then you'll have huge tracking issues.

Same goes for the OC-2, it's much better together with some drive / distortion / fuzz.
Analog octavers aren't supposed to track chords really of course, the only analog stuff I heard do that is Micro Synth and PLL type stuff, though what that usually does is leave a thickening low end rumble underneath your sound.
