Do any of you know about the Afton booking agency? Their site seems legitimate, their numbers look impressive all that mess.

I can't find any real information, though. It kind of seems smarter than trying to break in by doing coffee shops and open mics.

Pardon me. I seemed to have phrased something that made it seem like I am incompetent at basic googling.

There is a lot of information on it out there. I don't have all night to sift through everything to find out if its worth looking into, since I'd really rather be doing something useful or fun rather than to stare at a screen and read synthetic words and hype.

Let me rephrase.

Do any of you know about the Afton Booking agency? I put a lot of stock in what most ILFers think because from observation it seems to be a group of mostly like-minded folk. There is a good chance that one of you kind fellows knows more than I as I haven't tried "making it" in a music scene in 8 years. Gee, you guys are swell to interact with and have vast knowledge. Discussion sure is wonderful at ILF. By the way, I have read the entirety of the Afton Angency website as well as a few points and counterpoints from strangers I don't know and can't relate to. If anyone has experience with this agency, or knows someone who does, please tell me what you think as I can at least relate to all of you in a minimum of 3 ways. Thank you. I greatly appreciate each and every one of you for reading this post. It means a lot to me that you all are here, loving fuzz, music, pedals, pizza, booze and instruments. I'm glad I spend my time learning from all of you. You are all teaching me so much. I feel bad about posting sometimes because I know I don't really add much. Thanks again and thank you for putting up with my ignorant self.

For the sake of clarification: that is what I had assumed. I took the opportunity to mess back by posting the truth in a way that could be easily interpretted as sarcasm.

I meant all of it sincerely. That is why I'm here. No frontin'.

Also, if I didn't edit myself so heavily, all of my posts would look like the previous one. I have found to get more specific answers, I should be more succinct, which also sometimes leads to misunderstanding.

I found Chank's post to be humorous and decided to join in on the fun.

I apologize that my brief moment of bringing the "Confessions Thread" into this one makes me seem like a negative nancy.

Yeah, sorry, T_A_C, I didn't mean to come off as being ultra snarky.

While I've no firsthand experience with Afton Booking, one quick look at those Google results tells me all I need to know.

Avoid.

I say this because while I've no experience with Afton Booking, I used to work at a club and I've got plenty of experience dealing with companies like them. They're generally out to capitalize on musicians eager to play shows and are really only in it for the fast money. If you live in the Triangle of Norse Carolina, you've probably got better options for getting shows. Exactly what kind of music do you play and what types of venues are you really looking to play?

I've gotten emails from either Afton or their subsidiaries / biz-workalikes. Did a bunch of research, and the consensus seems to be that if they're not actually a scam, they're a hair's-breadth away. I was already suspicious since the last time I was contacted it was via my Soundcloud account, which I only use for gear demos - there are no "real songs" up there, or anything to indicate that I'm in a viable gigging band. And yet the person who contacted me kept at it for three or four volleys. And while I suffer from delusions of grandeur as much as the next person, I would never offer myself a gig based on the quality of those demos.
