Help me choose a fuzz-pedal

Hi.

I'm new here so if this is the wrong place to post this please let me know.

I need a fuzz and I'm torn between the Catalinbread Manx Loaghtan, Earthquaker Devices Hoof og EQD Cloven Hoof.

Does any of you have any experience with them? Pros and cons?

I have no experience with any of those pedals, but all my research points to EQD hoof.

Sounds like you want a big muff variant of some sort. There are tons of those about. Was is it specifically that has you drawn to those, sound wise?

I really love my BAT LSTR, and have an original Sovtek Green Army Muff to judge it against. My buddy actually prefers the LSTR to the original, but my ears are biased towards the original by a hair. Not surprising as it's been my benchmark for Muff tones for over 20 yrs.

I'll 2nd the Black Arts LSTR. I did a LOT of research before settling on a Muff-style fuzz and the LSTR was by far the best I've tried. I use it for bass and guitar (w/P90's) and I can easily dial up the right sounds for either situation. Another fuzz you should check out is the Dwarfcraft Eau Clair Thunder or the smaller Baby Thundaa. I had the Baby Thundaa and it sounds amazing. But for my needs, the LSTR was the way to go.

To be honest I just really like EQD as a company so that's why I started by checking demos of them out online. And then stumbled upon Manx Loaghtan. They all sound great in the demos I've seen. It's hard to explain what I'm after sound wise. I tried the Death By Audio Fuzz War a couple of weeks ago and though it sounds awesome it's just not what I'm looking for. It was too trebly I think...

I guess I'm looking for at pretty versatile fuzz. One that can do classic muff/fuzz but also stand out in the mix. One that can get pretty crazy but also do more subtle stuff.

Does that make sense?

I like the Hoof. Almost bought one. What about the Musket fuzz? LSTR is wicked, too.

I'm not big on mig muffs but I got some gas for the ARC Big green.

Muff sound like distortion to me.
So go with a Dr. Scientist The Elements.
It can get muffy in some way and you'll have way more option in a small footprint.

Yea, Earthquaker is awesome. I've been curious of the Cloven Hoof myself, as it supposed to have more crunch I think. The Dr Scientist Elements suggestion is a good one too. You can get Muffy tones, along with tons of others, without it actually being related to the muff at all. The Idiot Box Static fuzz could be a good one too. I've been using that one a bit lately. Might have one for sale for cheap soon (I have two).
