yeah i'd say if you were that stoked on the sound of the amp even with low breakup then i'd probably do whatever was necessary to get the same amp in a higher wattage

I've played 200T a bit and liked it although I remember it lacking a little in headroom maybe? Weren't they the old young widows/breather resist bass amp?

I had a 200T, didnt like it very much at all. The eqing never seemed right. Maybe itd sound better with tens than a fifteen.

They really are nice sounding amps. Now I will say they can shit out very fast. My Acoustic I've only had for 5 years and it's fucked. Completely fucked. Have no idea what happened either or how to fix it. LOL. It's not even worth taking to a tech because of the standard bench fee I'd be looking at, might as well buy another one.

Now that being said they are cheap enough to do so.

I have an old Crate combo that I got 18 years ago and it's still kicking despite having a cracked speaker (just adds gainz). So if I were you I'd look used and cheap and just have fun.

And yes they get very punchy tone. :)

Did you have a vintage Acoustic or one of the newer ones from after the brand was rebooted?

Ive heard the old ones have that whole bulletproof old ss vibe like peaveys, but the newer ones aren't quite as reliable.

It was a newer one which is probably the problem. Actually I have two of them. :) LOL. They both are shit. One is completely blown the other is ok, but breaks up like nobodies business. Sounds ok until you know, it blows up. hahaha

I still LOVE the tone of them though. One of the best solid state sounds I've heard.

yeah the new ones basically have nothing in common with the old ones apart from the colour scheme. That said, part of the appeal with old acoustic SS gear is if it does blow up (which they might do, certainly not as bulletproof as peavey) it's still cheaper just to buy another than fix it.

new are very much not the same thing, as it sounds like JWAR found out. One of my bassists just scored a "broken" 370 for $50 and it's allready fixed and working. He's got a peavey road king, a newer ampeg 4x10 and a sweet Sunn 4x15 cab. runs a stereo rig so I'll try to report back on how that all sounds together. I'm thinking fucking awesome.

weell the cheapness doesn'T really apply here since the only way for me to get any might be on ebay

this place is an overpriced shithole of a used amp market in the first place and usually there are not really any interesting amps

Heh. I actually switched from an Acoustic 150 to a GK. They're really more alike than different. Although, you can shock your friends with the 150. That's pretty fun.

If you keep the same number of watts with an Acoustic, you'll probably get the same volume. At least if the 150 is anything to go by.

Don't know if it's any help, but there's a 370 with speakers for sale in the Netherlands, But It aint cheap, and it says pick up only. Maybe you could persuade him to ship it?

guh that's so good but SO HEAVY AND HUGE AND NON-SHIPPABLE AND EXPANSIVE

Spunkiez - Interesting. Well my RB is about 240 watts, running on about 200 into 8 ohms right now. That's enough AND it lets me crank it a bit which is when the magic happens and the GK starts overdriving a little bit which to my ears sounds surprisingly musical to be honest. The overdriving Acoustic 140 sounded quite different to me. But noted :)

Just here to suggest old peaveys. I just picked up a mark III 400 and it sounds rediculous. Beautiful grind to it when pushed and loud as fuck.

Yup. I forgot about that. The 150 has a pretty unique overdrive. The preamp overdrives too, I think. The volume control is a gain control. I bet it could be modded to run one channel into the other and KILL. Alas, it still wouldn't be that loud. But it'd sound cool.
