My label partner called me a couple hours ago and told me. He knew Jay pretty well, and we're just dumbfounded.
Jay played a show here over the summer at a little bar called The Brass Rail. There was maybe 40 or 50 people who stuck it out to see him. We all gathered around the stage about 2 or 3 deep as he played his set. A little surreal, totally amazing. I think I spent $100 on records with him at the merch booth. Gone way too soon... It just makes me sad.
