Not entirely sure it's Japanese.
The body looks a bit like an EKO Cobra. The headstock looks like it might be Kay.
Where'd you find the photo and do you have any better quality shots of it?

Why asking anyone... just ask Chank... he know them all!

I won it in an auction. It hasn't arrived yet.Chankgeez wrote:Not entirely sure it's Japanese.

Nice.
So, that's the only photo from the auction?
If it is Japanese, it'll probably say so on the neck plate.
I may be able to get a better idea once you've got it and can provide better pics.

The headstock shape does look like a Kay, but I haven't seen a Kay painted like this.

The bridge looks like an EKO, but the body is a tiny bit different, and the pickguard wraps down on the left side, which the EKO doesn't.

Bound neck, zero fret.

Is that binding on the headstock or just paint made to look like binding?
I've never seen a string guide like that on a Kay either. String guide looks Japanese.
No close up pic of the neck plate?

It looks like binding to me, but I'm not sure. I can take better pictures when it ships.Chankgeez wrote:Is that binding on the headstock or just paint made to look like binding?

They made a real abortion of the restring. Check out that low E. Nice guitar though.
Good score.

My vote says 100% japanese guitar. The wood the neck is made out of is a dead ringer for the "mahogany" that MANY cheap asian guitars were made from.
All hardware, the body, truss rod adjustment, everything screams Japanese.

Re: Can anyone ID this Japanese Teisco thing?
yeah, I'm starting to think it's a Japanese Kay from the Seventies.
I can't tell from the photos, but the neck looks like it may be laminated.

Re: Can anyone ID this Japanese Teisco thing?
It arrived today. The "nut" of the bridge is missing. I removed the wood piece to see how close it was to a TOM, putting a TOM on the posts. It basically has one post pushed into each of the inside corners of the TOM post slots, so the bridge is smaller than a TOM. Where can I get a replacement? It also needs a spring.
The pickups buzz when touched, which I find odd. The output is much lower than the buzz. I will probably rewire it, but want to know if the pickups are problematic. I also noticed the volume seems to work in reverse, on at full when at 0.
What pics should I take?
