The tracks that Madlib produced are way fresh. A lot of the album are recycled beats from hip hop albums. Madlib's tracks can be found on the Beat Konducta in India album. The first track is by his brother Oh No from another album. I do really like it though. Mos Def is one of the best hip-hop mainstreamers these days.
hahaha...I actually didn't mean "super fresh" as any sort of hip-hop slang--I meant, "That is fresh, as in different/refreshing." Or like, "That juice is really fresh."

I crap all the time with rap.

I do listen to a lot more than hip-hop, I just like to come into the Music forum here and post the last thing any of the regulars want to talk about.
we need a fucking hip hop thread. i've been meaning to pick the ecstatic up. there's been a lot of hip hop records i wanted to pick up this year. got built for cuban linx part II for christmas. it's like the first one, but more awesome
i thought The Ecstatic was a mega-disappointment but then again i have higher standards than most. i liked History cuz that's teh jam but i think that song more or less confirms he should do another album w/ Talib.
a pretty dismal year for hip-hop overall IMO...pretty sad: teh "oligarchs" have taken over & they have absolutely zero interest making a quality record.

I thought I had high standards, but I guess I don't.

Talib is unbelievably good, but I thought Eardrum was a disappointment. I think his albums have proved that Mos Def makes better solo albums. (Or they're at least tied.)
Then again, remove about 5 songs from Eardrum and it'd be a masterpiece IMO. Go figure.
i am not really a big Talib Kweli fan but i think it is rather remarkable that he haz even pulled off a solo career AT ALL let alone a SUCCESSFUL one becuz lots of ppl thought Mos Def "carried" Talib during Blackstarr but he's put out alot moar records than Mos Def & overall his career haz been generally moar successful than Mos Def's but i do think Mos Def does put out better moar interesting albumz. really can't front on that. i did see Talib on teh Spitkickers tour in 2000 & that was mega-meh but he really stepped it up after that.
i really appreciate Black on Both Sides a bit moar now. he really took some challenges on that record that i wasn't into at teh time but now i kind of dig.
