Yeah -- here's the thing on all this. The prices are great. If you have the funds you should buy it. I think misterstomach was saying how much he liked the 5150 for Blackened stuff and I can totally see that working really well. No pedals. for what it's worth, i had a 5150 for years and i think it's a good high gain head. loud as hell. gets a lot better with good tube choices too. i have no gas for one anymore, but i had my time in the sun with one and it served me really well.
When it comes to that typical metalcore/death metal sound you get out of the 5150... well I can't stand it. I went to a really sweet fest this summer and it was a lot of shared gear and/or bands using 5150s. I just really didn't care for the sound of it.
