I own a Memory Boy and love it to death. Consider getting an expression pedal with it. That will allow you to change the delay time with a pedal and get some pretty nifty sounds, as if you were cranking on the delay knob as you were playing.
In the future, if you are looking at a digital delay, the Line 6 DL4 is pretty fantastic, and super flexible. I'm not a huge fan of most of the stuff that Line 6 does, but that one... well, it's pretty sweet. That would be if you could stretch your budget up to around $250.
You mention that you are a drummer... how will you be using the pedal? What is the rest of your signal chain? What is the source?

I was actually thinking about getting an expression pedal, so yeah that'll probably happen sometime soon.

To be honest, I'm not sure what my source will be at this point. I'll probably make some contact mics and tape em to the resonant head of my floor toms or something like that. I've also been wanting to teach myself guitar, so that might come into play as well. The rest of my chain is pretty pathetic so far; all I have is that DD400 and a MIJ BF-2 that I might try to get modded at some point.

I recommend getting a ring mod to run your drums through as well. I've had good results with a contact mic, percussion, and ring mod.

one can not express the love for a DMM enough

it's the sort of delay that some people just "get". it's fantastically musical and great for creating room tones. outer space stuff is great with it too. plus because of it's size it's very easy to ass expression pedal inputs for nearly all of the knobs and you can double the delay time too (it's a very grainy sound but still cool).

i got mine because a producer friend who's made a bunch of really big indie rock/pitchfork-top records over the past few years said it was his favorite. it's seems like most of the time i ask him what room mic he used on stuff it always goes back to the DMM.

as far as delays goes really anything will do. i have much love for my digitech digidelay which is kind of a piece of junk (doesn't always want to work) that thing seems to love all of the feedback pedals i build.

the way i view music gear is it's a tool. i'd say pick one that you'll want to touch and fondle the most. at least you'll know you'll use it. because that's the point. if it inspires you to make music thats all that matters.

i know everyone loves the dl-4 but i just never had that much fun using it. i didn't like that the knobs weren't always "connected". i prefer more visceral gear over anything else.

it depends on who you are.

one great thing about digital pedals is loop functions. great if you're playing alone. lay down a riff. loop it. repeat it. then jam some drums on it. always good time.

I found the most badass bitcrushed, ring modded bend for my old Digidelay one time. then it broke.
