I had a HRD for 2 years- they're unreliable from my experience, and they just sounds kinda sterile. And again, they're waaaaay too loud.

I'm thinking of trying out the 65 DR reissue. Bit pricier than the 68 custom though :(

When is it from? I absolutely adore the Showman, though it might be a little heavy to carry around.

If I could have any two amps - but only two - I'd take a vintage Showman and a vintage Princeton. And I'd be pretty damn happy.

Get that head and run. It won't end up lighter than the Twin in total, but you can split it in two loads so it's easier to move.

If you want all the fun of a Twin and expandability, that's the thing to get.

I heard that they can be picky with pedals though?
Dunno, sounds good to me :idk: Different than with my Fenders, which for instance liked my rat but not my hotcake, and with the vox it's the other way around. Generally speaking I'd say that really big and brutal fuzz pedals may sound a bit too different on a vox, but that too really depends on what sorta tone you're going for.

If I were able to record a half descent sounding clip, I'd post something that would give you a boner, but I guess you're just gonna have to take my word for it :p

Serious though, there's plenty of established/succesful guitarists who prove an AC30 works superb with pedals, both recorded as well as live. I guess it basicly comes down to personal taste and style and what not.
Seconded, got the same amp - AC15C2 - it does take pedals quite well including fat fuzzes.. I prefer the normal channel though for dirt pedals (top boost can get a bit mushy when already overdriven). I run all my fuzzes into the normal channel and switch to the top boost with ABY for a cleanish/crunch sound..

Totally agreed on the Hot Rod Deluxe, it's not a bad sounding amp but it's nothing much special either when compared to the real deal in my opinion.
The '65 Deluxe Reverb Reissue isn't the best in the current Fender line, the Super Reverb and Princeton Reverb are definitely suberb to it I think, they just have more punch and a bigger broader sound to them.
good deals with: the_brow, phantasmagorovich, alexsga, DarkAxel, goroth, The Wood Wizard, Tendollarcat, vbps, monkeydancer, intothegroove, Brobee

HRD isn't a Deluxe Reverb. It's a 6L6 faux blackface with enough gain on tap to maim in original versions. And is an amazing pedal platform with the right (read: stupid clean) tubes.

I actually like the sledgehammer gain channel sometimes.

I run my HRD with a THD Hot Plate attenuator and can get some great sounds out of it at any volume. It is an awesome pedal platform.
