For the record, I wasn't using indie as a genre there. I was using it to talk about independent bands (and their fans) that wear the fact that they're indie like its some "i'm cooler than your shitty mainstream band" badge.

i dislike bands that think they are cooler just because they are non mainstream too.

Eric Johnson: Great chops, but in general he's a pompus dick. Claims he can hear the difference if his overdrive pedal is elevated on a small green (has to be green) wood box 6 inches above the stage.
Really? I've always thought he seemed like a really down to earth guy. I don't believe a lot of the magic stuff, but he has good ears for sure.
I'd rather have him than Ted Nugent.

Define what you mean by "Hardcore" before I get all offended and start geeking out on you and being a total elitist snob about how Hardcore (Punk) is awesome.

mainstream bands are starting to be called indie now..
To be fair, "mainstream" (I'm sure there are degrees of "maintreaminess") and "Indie" aren't mutually exclusive.
Plenty of "Indie" bands have become recognized w/o the help of major labels.

This. I love the B-head, when he aint making computer noises, he's pretty great, check out Acoustic Shards, Colma, Population Override.... Otherwise it's rather unlistenable.

What's hardcore about that? That's overproduced clicktrack-backed compressed all to hell pap is what that is.

ok,here's the rundown: 1. Fallout Boy 2.Arcade Fire(maybe a controversial choice),for the guy's sniveling vocals. 3.Seether/Staind/Nickelback/Hinder and any other band with that Mr. Ed/Eddie Vedder vocal style. 4. Pearl Jam(see above) 5. Steven Seagal for having the nerve to call himself a blues guitarist 6. Alanis/Avril/Flyleaf for "shouting the poetic truths of high school journal keepers"- Lee Renaldo 7. Linkin Park 8. Panic! At the Disco 9. Joe Satriani/Steve Vai 10. Yanni-punkass wife-beating motherfucker. And do you know why? Because of prolonged exposure to his own hokey ass music, that's why.
And Animal Collective, it's no the band so much, It's their FANS! Jesus fuck... I find it hard to listen to them based on the fact that so many people listen to them just to be hip. They actually do have some good albums but...
http://www.myspace.com/utopialookalike - fuck this band in the ears. I'm somewhat friends with the guys, but since the singer is on student council they always get the best spot at school shows. He also has an all Boss board and won't change it for the world, he takes his shoes off when he plays so that he doesn't get them dirty. AND (lol) he has his microphone on a boom stand to the side of him rather than the front so you can see his full body while playing. oh and I almost forgot, the guitar player (not singer) has been playing for maybe a year and a half (the singer basically told the other members of the band that they should start playing instruments so they could join his band) and his rig consists of like, a vintage Les Paul and a Twin Reverb!
I can't stand the whole Death/Thrash/Whatever metal thing. The machine gun drums, chugga chugga guitars, etc. I can dig some elements of the music in other music, but in general, I can't stand them.
I also have trouble stomaching any music that's made for a guitarist to show off. If it's one guy making awesome music on a guitar, awesome. But usually it's just some guy playing scales and sweeps and arpeggios and such. Fuck that.
Also:
Metallica, Megadeth, Guns and Roses... and any band that sounds like them.

P.S. I bet that kid only knew Jordan
He actually knew a lot about him. It was close to stalker material. His parents wouldn't let him buy the albums because they were "Mindless garbage"
