Fuzz-friendly hollowbody basses?
A friend recently asked for recommendations on a good, thumpy/muddy/fuzz-friendly hollowbody bass, and since I tend towards the twangy/mid-rangey, I wasn't quite sure what to say. I thought the Fender Starcaster reissue was kinda cool... but I'm not sure if that fits the bill he's looking for.
Any ideas? Don't make me go to TB for the answer... I fear leaving the cozy fuzzy borders of ILF!
Extra points as always for affordable / easily found options, and extra points for humbuckers / mudbuckers (his request)...

I'm more like a mids-ist than a bassist.

Looks awesome, Bobby, are those fully hollow or semi-hollow?

I play an Epiphone Jack Casady, I think it's great, but natural volume can make it feedback and how you stand in relation to which direction your amp is facing is an issue as well.
I would try to look for hollowbody basses without f-holes, or semi-hollow bodies. While they don't have humbuckers and are related to conservative ideologies, Danelectros are hollow, and thump, and twang.
Also, Allen Woody bass, and the Beatle bass.

Re: Fuzz-friendly hollowbody basses?
Nice. As close to being hollow without quite being fully hollow.

Re: Fuzz-friendly hollowbody basses?
My wife has one. Neck dive, junky fretwork, some rattles to sort through. I wish they had focused more on the out-of-the-box playability than the bling. Sounds pretty good, but the mini hum neck pickup falls short of mudbucker obesity. Put flats on or nylon tape-wound and it speaks pretty good thump and whomp. I don't think it was ever gonna be a slapping bass.WayToHip wrote:Also, Allen Woody bass
