New releases

Post by tremolo3 »

I'm not into the social media stuff so I rarely know about new releases since all the "blogosphere" came down a few years ago.

So, how about if we post the new releases you guys know of in this thread for those who are not into the social media networks (I know, I know)

I'd suggest to post exclusively fuzz-based type of music, but feel free to post every kind of music (well, I really don't like hiphop music but kids these days are crazy about it, so go ahead).

Thanks!

My favorites of this year:
Damien Jurado - Brothers and Sisters...
John Frusciante - Enclosure
Goat - Commune
Alt-J - its pretty swaggy but not as good as the first
Cymbals Eat Gtars!

Honorable mentions because I like the bands but not as much the new stuff:
Beck - Morning Phase
The Antlers - Familiars

Also David Bazan album coming soon. I think Grizzly Bears are recording? I've heard Modest Mouse things but it's been awhile. There was a new Pixies album but I haven't heard it yet
U2 anyone?????

Thanks man, I'll take a look at the new John Frusciantes.

I have listened "Sines" by Jakob and it's just OK.

Jakob - Sines ... one of my favourite post-rock bands of all time. The new one is not as packed as the older releases, but there are some KILLER tracks making it really enjoyable
The Twilight Sad - Nobody Wants to be Here and Nobody Wants to Leave ... one of my favourite records of this year actually. Amazing scottish post-punk type thing
Old Man Gloom - The Ape of God
and ................................. great double release indeed.
Old Man Gloom - The Ape of God
He Is Legend - Heavy Fruit ... really cool album. Not taking themselves too seriously makes for a pretty colourful record!
Weezer - Everything Will Be Alright in the End ... despite/thanks to the overt cheesiness, a really good record
Gerard Way - Hesitant Alien ... sort of a nerdy vibe, really decent debut solo album though! Feels very personal and intimate sort of a "hey i like these musics, check this out" thing :)
Scott Walker/Sunn O))) - Soused ... to me, pretty sickening and uncomfortable album. In a good way. Not an easy listening for sure
Closure in Moscow - Pink Lemonade ... The Mars Volta with better melodic sensibility and some juicy bluesier sounding guitars. All over the place, pretty amazing, one of the favourites this year
Lunatic Soul - Walking on a Flashlight Beam ... only heard once, but sounded pretty good to me, as always
St.Vincent - S/T ... St.Vincent is generally pretty amazing. This is no exception
Young Widows - Easy Pain ... for some reason they went even more lo-fi than before it seems :D a bit hard to get into, but after a few tries it's really cool
Swans - To Be Kind ... umm.............. At least as good as The Seer, if not better. Different. Weirder, less dark, just different. Another one of the favourites this year
Earth - Deadly and Primitive ... a cool record. Some tracks better than the others but overall it makes me happy
Elbow - The Take off and Landing of Everything ... wow, breathtaking. Really majestic and dreamy, fucking great record

there were others that didn't please me as much. Some better than others - Brody Dalle, Bongripper, Black Knights, Damon Albarn, Mark Lanegan, Interpol, Dot Hacker, Sleepmakeswaves... not saying they were bad, just... not really there. for longer discussion

some I haven'T heard yet - the new Devin Townsend, the new Melvins, Casablancas with Voidz, Pulled Apart by Horses, The Nels Cline Singers... I'll get there :)

and then there are the new Pink Floyd
I make pedal demos as East Stomp Boutique - http://www.youtube.com/c/eaststompboutique

Here are my favorite 2014 releases so far.

Alex G - DSU
Self-recorded guitar pop, really creative but also very accessible.

White Suns - Totem
Distorted guitar + harsh noise with acoustic drums. For fans of super intense music but not as tedious as something like Swans.

Telstar Drugs - Endless Straight
Canadian post-punk. Elegant and super well recorded. Clean guitars with the occasional touch of reverb and tremolo.

Stagnant Pools - Geist
Two piece shoegaze, deadpan (but good) vocals. Wall of sound and super great as a live act.

White Reaper - s/t
Punk rock. Like an actually fresh version of Green Day.

Protomartyr - Under Color of Official Right
Detroit post-punk, my dad loves this album.

Greys - If Anything
Noise rock like METZ, still accessible and fun.

Alvvays - s/t
Dream pop, super catchy, same label as Stagnant Pools and White Reaper.

Anamai - s/t
Pretty ambient folk, but not something you have to listen to in the background.

What Moon Things - s/t
Dreamo, good variety of stuff on this LP.

The Raveonettes - Pe’ahi
Surfy noise pop about a near drowing experience. Great addition to the rest of their catalog.

Whirr - Sway
Immersive shoegaze/moody punk.

Weed Hounds - s/t
Noisy dream pop from Brooklyn.

Foxes In Fiction - Ontario Gothic
Beautiful healing pop.

Naomi Punk - Television Man
Post-punk with super cool drums and two guitars.

Dories - Stripped
Canadian post-punk with noise bursts and meandering guitar.

Aphex Twin - Syro, very classic Aphex Twin. Nothing that we haven't heard before, but still a nice return to form.

Flying Lotus - Your Dead!, Techy, hip hop influenced trippy jazz fusion. Not as cohesive as his last album, but still sonically brilliant.

Gerard Way - Hesitant Alien, This one is a straight up fuzzy tribute to the britpop Gerard grew up listening too. Completely different from what My Chemical Romance sounded like, a lot less drama and darkness.
