Essential unessential pedals

Post by goroth »

What's a pedal that's on your board that you don't *need* in any way shape or form but it makes the world a better place knowing it's on your board?

Please avoid discussing the terms "essential", "need" etc because fuck that.

Raptio. Totally don't need it for writing. But I use it a ton to make riffs glitch and weird. If I flipped it tomorrow my songs wouldn't suffer, but damn I love it.

BYOC 5 knob compressor, I barely even use it and I don't reeeeally notice if it's on or off

But it's mainly there for sentimental value, it was the first "real" pedal I built, plus my girlfriend painted the enclosure for me when we first started dating over three years ago.

I tried having it off my board, but it just didn't feel right :idk:

This is making me think of crappy pedals that I'm keeping around but after reading all the responses, mine is probably Organizer. Sometimes I have to play a bit differently to get it to work. I like the octaves and the lag pretty high up so its fairly present and I have to work with it. It's definitely something I could do without but I like it :)

I haven't taken my wah pedal out of the pedal box in probably years now, but I can't see myself getting rid of it. A wah seems like a thing a guitarist should always have, just in case.

Get that thing out and play it dude. Wah pedals are fucking awesome. They are my 2nd favorite pedal. Fuzz is no 1 of course. :thumb:

Right? I need to revisit it, when it was regular on my board it was mostly for 70s funk, wock-a-choo shit. These days I would probably use it as a stationary filter.

That's how I'm living. 3 dirts only. They're all essential. But they all do the same thing too.

Yes. I don't see it as unessential, though. :bear:

Goodbye 24
I don't "need" it there, it's mostly for atmospherics that I could technically do without, but by god I'll cut you if you try to remove it. I get more "what's that awesome sound?" comments from that pedal than any other.
