I have two reverb pedals on my board, and I use them as such:

Hardwire Supernatural on the Spring setting. I set the brightness all the way because I have dark sounding pickups. I use it mostly for song where I have sudden stops to add some spring verb to the tails. I also use it in one song to add brightness and depth to trashy jazz chords.

I also have a Digiverb set nearly full on wet in the gated mode. Basically makes my guitar sound like kevin shields, and is the most dramatic effect on my board in a way. I have like one guitar solo in my set and at the end of it I turn this on to make the feedback sound ethereal and dreamy sounding. I also use it in another song to completely wash out chords.

I haven't had an issue with live use of reverbs, honestly. But I don't really use them in a subtle way.

i have a ghost echo that's always on. it's on the subtle end of things, but not super subtle. best reverb for high gain that i've found.

I was gonna say it depends on where it is in the chain... Like MEC I usually have the RRR always on but it's first in the chain and I keep the mix low... I use verb > dirt > delay > clean amp and it never gets lost...

Thanks for the insight guys. Definitely something I'll keep in mind and not rule out using reverbs entirely.
I'll probably end up using it more as a special effect, or perhaps write more music that would be quite "open" sounding more in the future.
I really love the reverb on the guitar in Yo La Tengo's "Green Arrow".

I play in a post-punk / shoegaze called These Colours.
Here's a link to our single to get an idea of what we sound like. https://thesecolours.bandcamp.com/
Hope I'm allowed to post a link!

Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it. :)
We're heading into Invada Studios (http://www.invadastudios.com/) at the start of the next month to cut two new tracks.
We've also got an EP that we recorded live back in April (at Invada) that we're currently mixing/mastering.

The reverb on that track was the EQD Dispatch Master (I'm the more left panned twiddly guitar), which I'm really regretting selling!

The RRR does look really amazing. I'm torn between a Supermoon, an RRR and the Context.
I'm gonna have to wait awhile till I can really afford it!

I have an on/off relationship with reverb. Have had different variations of the TC ones, which I've always ended up selling because they seemed kinda... fake? Like putting excessive amounts of make-up on my sound. Loved the Supermoon Chrome, but felt it was a bit too gimmicky in the long run. Now I use the Afterneath, but I'm still not entirely sure about how I feel when it comes to them verbs. On the one hand it makes my guitar sound huge and cool like it's floating in space. On the other hand, I sometimes get the feeling that it's a bit cheesy for what I do, and that I prefer the ambience of natural spaces and keeping my signal "clear". Not sure if I would use verb live, never done it.

Like other people, I only use reverb live for a special effect, often into fuzz for that cool smeared messy sound.

Like Eivind that's pretty much also the way I feel about most verbs, they just sound so fake and if they don't sound fake they have this echo type spring reverb sound to them that I really don't jell with.
So far I liked the RRR and Stereo WET best but the former doesn't have infinite decay and the latter, while it also sounds really nice, is overall a bit boring in my opinion.
Good luck pushing through the mix with the Context by the way, it did sound nice but I really found it weakened the sound when you run it a bit more to its extremes as it doesn't have a volume control to bring up the level in such cases.
good deals with: the_brow, phantasmagorovich, alexsga, DarkAxel, goroth, The Wood Wizard, Tendollarcat, vbps, monkeydancer, intothegroove, Brobee

And this is why my rack reverbs will live on - they have both a mix control *and* output level selections. Want reverb pushing out at +15db out of the back of the unit? Have fun making preamp tubes cry.
