Godin

Post by Casavettes »

Hey errybody
Was wondering if anybody had experience with godin's electric guitars
Specifically the Godin Empire
https://reverb.com/item/315503-used-201 ... ral-finish

Seems like a decent secondary guitar to have around

Haven't played an Empire, but have often been tempted to buy one on trust. I got my Godin Detour sight unseen because it was on sale super cheap, I trust the brand, and I expected it to be a solid backup. It became my favorite guitar, even though I think it's ugly as sin. The Empire is prettier. They build them well, and their necks feel great.

That is a sweet looking guitar, for sure.
I'm more like a mids-ist than a bassist.

I have a Godin LG EMG and let's not beat around the bush, it's a sinfully ugly guitar. It's solid as a rock though and for what I paid it was well worth it.

I've always lusted after the Empire, although I like all the "Richmond" series guitars.

Have played most of their lineup.

Really well built guitars with quite decent hardware for very good prices. In general, I find the pickups quite balanced, which might be a bad thing if you like bite for example. This one felt pretty soft to me as well... almost like a shorter scale guitar, very comfy and easy to play :idk:

Because of the balanced pickups, the maybe sound a bit "generic" - without a strong character. Which might definitely be a good thing because they mostly give you very nice canvas to put your favourite pickups in and emphasize what you want to :idk:
I make pedal demos as East Stomp Boutique - http://www.youtube.com/c/eaststompboutique

My guitarist has an original LG, it's a really cool guitar, it really is a oddball lestelepaulcaster thing, the wiring was really odd and choked the sound a bit, so we put a bucker and a P90 in it, she liked it better than the LGX for whatever reason and ended up sticking a roland pickup on it

Godin basses are awesome. My guess is that their guitars are too.

The pic above is mine, GREAT guitar, I seriously can't say enough good things about it. The neck is thinner but quite comfortable, well balanced when standing up or sitting down, busy is basically a single cut sg, and the workmanship is top notch.
Plenty of noise, little discernible skill or talent

Yeah, sorry, finboy, I should've credited you with the photo. That guitar does look spectacularly great.

No worries about credit, lol

If you can swing the guitar and need a backup, grab it! (Then add a jag/jm trem)

Jandek frequently plays a Godin, which may or may not be an endorsement, depending on your constitution.

It seems to be an unpopular opinion here, but I don't like Godin at all. I have probably played 15 of them and didn't like any of them.

I think they look good on paper, but I don't like how they feel or sound.

I would not buy it without trying it.
