I'm thinking of selling my Carvin DC145 and then using that money + some i already have to buy a Jazzmaster and some pedals to complete my rig. I find it really hard to get a tone i like out of the Carvin and I really don't like the floyd rose and how I therefore can't really do alternate tunings. The only thing is, I only got it like a year ago, when I was still into shred and starting to study Jazz (i still play some jazz but i don't shred anymore) and I'm worried that my tastes might change again soon (although there's no sign of it atm), and I don't want to keep buying/selling guitars. Right now I'm into shoegaze/ambient/post-rock/indie which the JM seems perfect for (I've always kind of preferred listening to these genres, but only started trying to play and write stuff like this since the summer) but I'm not sure if it would do well for other things.
Would it be smart to sell it or keep it and then save up money?
My full rig would probably be
Jazzmaster
Fender Hot Rod Deluxe
Mellowtone Singing Tree (have)
Big Muff (have)
Memory Boy (have)
Line 6 DL4
Boss RV-3
Circuit Bent DS1
Lookin to complete my rig...

Re: Lookin to complete my rig...
JMs are great guitars, Carvins are not a favorite, so I'm a bit biased.
I actually went with a Jaguar after tinkering with JMs. I just love the sound of the neck pu, very similar to a Strat on the same pu setting.
I do tune mine to F though, it just doesn't sound or play as good at E, even with 52s on the low E. It's the Placebo tuning, basically.
I would try playing around with both a Jag and a JM before you decide. Both function pretty much the same for Shoegaze.
