I gave Montgomery a chance but it sounded too cheesy to me, I'm looking for a more mellow type-of guitar sound.
All Jazz I know is crazy old stuff like Coleman, Charlie Parker, Sun Ra, Thelonious Monk... And they rarely use a guitar that is not played like drums.
Thanks for any suggestions.

Maybe try his riverside recordings, pure genius and groove. His ouput with his brothers is great too.
Django and Joe Pass are a couple other players to check out. Both are master musicians.
Good luck, hope you find something you like its a rich genre.
John Abercrombie is worth looking into as well.
Sonny Sharrock is god.
I once saw Jamie play the jazzy clean part in 'this is a hostage situation' off that album with his left hand while re-stringing his guitar with his right. It was ridiculous.
Great! Thank you guys.
I do know and listen most of the stuff you have posted here, but I'll take a listen to the other stuff.

Karate are the best band at doing the whole jazz guitar in non-jazz circumstances. Farina is just wonderful. McCarthy and Goddard are a colossal bastard of a rhythm section to boot.
Here's some totally choice Karate cuts for your earballs.
